Yes. It's been going on for at least a couple months now.

You are incorrect. Until today, the fare was $288, not $218.

Huh? Is it $288 or $218? It's been $288.60 for a long time, as your thread title suggested. Did you see $218 today?

Before today, the fare was $288 plus tax, for a total of $358.60

Today, it is $218 plus tax, for a total of $288.60 (that's what the "tax paid" in the title means).

By the way - if you book the 14th, it reverts to $288+tax. If you book the 22nd for the return, the fare is $338+tax.

I've seen the $288.60 all-in price for a long time. Not every day of the week. But such fare has existed for a while.

I looked all over the CO site when I heard about the $268+tax about a month ago, but they were all gone - I had to pay $278+tax.

Trust me, there were no $218+tax fares in March quoted then, or I'd have been on it. I think they must shift their smokin' deals around.

You are probably right that when you checked prior, they didn't have the low fares for your dates in March. Price and availability vary time to time. But there has been $288 all-in fares EWR-CGN throughout the winter.

So rkkwan wasn't "incorrect" after all?

March 13 and 21 were $288 before today.

Some fares were $218 before today.

My OP was for the 13th and 21st.

Your call.

Can you give me a little more info on these Continental tickets? Is this the price for winter travel, or is this just a fluke? Do you have to fly March 13-21, or are there other combinations? The postings were kind of vague. Thanks. Peace, Robyn >-

It is not a fluke, it is not a mistake fare. It's legit.

Just check continental.com for dates you may be interested. I don't know when it may end, or what's the last date for the fare.

You can also use beta.itasoftware.com to search up to a month at a time.

Note that this fare is only for EWR-CGN. It's higher from other cities.

Thanks, rkkwan. We would like to travel in October, from JFK, Newark, or Philly to Germany. We hadn't even considered Cologne as a destination airport. I guess we'll keep watching the prices on continental.com. Hopefully I'll be able to find something equivalent. Peace, Robyn >-

No, you won't find these cheap fares this far out. Business may have picked up then, or they may cancel this route.

This might be a new flight to Cologne? Sometimes this happens when the airlines are promoting a new route. I think it happened last year with Delta to Vienna,......but I may be "'dreaming".
Promotions are great it jumped upon quickly.
I seem to vaugly remember reading somethng about Continental's New flight to Cologne, and thought at the time it would be a great way to get to Germany, (or Europe in general).

The flight started last summer. Load hasn't improved throughout the winter. Besides the $288 fare, there were lots of half-mileage award tickets out earlier.

My dad is going to use 25,000 miles for Houston-Cologne in April. [From Houston, the fare is just over $400. Not bad, we have too many miles that need to be spent.]

We flew on that flight last year because it was the only decent deal we could get from San Diego to Europe last year. I highly recommend it. We too had empty seats around us, the times were great, the cologne airport very easy and quick, plus the metro was super easy to use (and we had two kids with us.)

If you need a place in Cologne to stay at, I highly recommend the Hiton near the Dom. We prepaid our room and it was 94$ a night and very nice.
