Zion, Bryce, Highway 12
I've read that you get the best views along Highway 9 if you're heading west into Zion rather than leaving. I'm wondering if Highway 12 is better seen going southwest or northeast, or if it matters one way or another.

Hi B,
Honestly, I don't think it matters on either highway in either direction. You'll be stopping so much to take pictures, you'll be able to see all directions. The drive from the bottom of Zion Canyon up to the top at the east entrance is short and there is a great short hike, Overlook Trail, just on the east side of the tunnel.

Haven't got to it in my Arizona trip report, but let me mention now that Zion was quite beautiful with an enjoyable stay in Moab but that a March snow prevented us from going on to Bryce. It is quite a bit higher elevation and we were advised to not try it. We backtracked to I-15 and over to Arches Nat'l Pk.

Thanks for the replies. I'm enjoying all of the comments on this board. We're probably going to have to try for April instead of May, or shelve this trip 'til next year due to family health problems. Thanks again!
