Zion, Bryce and Antelope Canyon

Planning a trip the 2nd week of September. We’re flying into Las Vegas then driving to Zion for 2 nights and 1 night in Bryce. Our next stop is Antelope Canyon staying in Page for 2 nights. Not sure if we should stay 1 night in Kanab or St. George to break up the drive back to Vegas. Any suggestions? My daughter has some limitations so we’re trying to have a more relaxed trip.

It really depends on how much car time you want. Page to Vegas is a nearly 5 hour drive so staying the night in St George would be a nice break. But if she can sleep most of the way, then driving straight through wouln't be bad.

Thanks Janis. Any hotel suggestions for St. George? Do you think it’s worth stopping in Kanab for a few hours or just skip it?

We found much of interest in and around Kanab. Many old westerns were filmed here - in town there is a free museum where you can peruse some of the old sets: Frontier Movie Town and Little Hollywood Movie Museum

We didn't make it to the Gunsmoke movie set outside town, but here is the link: https://www.visitsouthernutah.com/Gunsmoke-Movie-Set

That link also has references to other attractions, lodging, dining, etc. There are a number of restaurants, including a dinner/wild west show (Jake's Chaparral). We enjoyed eating at Nedra's Cafe, once a hangout for actors filming movies in Kanab https://www.nedrascafe.com/html/about.html

If you have a little extra time, a visit to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary would be well worth the trip. We met some people staying in our hotel who were actually spending their vacation volunteering there. It is an amazing facility, giving home to all types of critters. https://bestfriends.org/sanctuary/vi...anctuary-visit

Perfect! We will make that a stop. I actually grew up watching Gunsmoke on Saturday nights!! I’ve also heard good things about the Best Friends Sanctuary. Thanks for all the info.

The Gunsmoke movie set above is on private land. No one is allowed. You can see the falling buildings from the road.
Another suggestion is Paria Ghost town that also hosted western movies. The Outlaw Josey Wales was filmed there in addition to many others including Gunsmoke. Canyon is very scenic.
A 1998 Flash flood destroyed most of it . Locals rebuilt is higher up the canyon. Then vandals burned in in 2006. Cemetery is there, of course. If you drive further north about 1/2 mile, you can hike across the river to the old Mormon settlement. Some buildings remain. Caution: River has quicksand - got stuck in it once - memories are made of this (Dean Martin).
Web site for both is

Thanks for the tip about the quicksand!! I think we’ll skip that one. Would be fun just to see the Gunsmoke movie set.
