Yosemite - in late March/which room should we request at the Ahwanee?

Happy New Year Fodor friends! We are starting off the year right...booked a "bucket list" trip to the Ahwanee Hotel in Yosemite in late March. I've heard its going to be cold, hotel is a old, could use an updating, but none the less its where we want to stay! Any suggestions on which room to request? (booked King Classic Room), Heard the dining room is not to miss. Anything else? We are there for 3 nights...

We are early sixties, active but not experienced hikers - one person in our group of four is an experienced photographer.

Thank you!

I think you will be fine with the classic room. It will still be cold, so springing for a balcony isn’t worth it.

At the Ahwahnee dining room, enjoying coffee at the table where Queen Elizabeth dined.

. . . BTW you are not paying for the room/standards . . . You are paying for the location, views, service and history.

Interesting to see your photo, MichelleY, I imagined you Asian, as in MichelleYeoh. Now I'll wonder if we share a last name, mine also a Y.

Mme Perdu - we’ve met before at a GTG. I am part Basque American, so have one of those tricky Y last names.

Oh dear, Sacramento? The only group GTG I've attended & admit to being overwhelmed.

That was a pretty big GTG. Not just Sacramento Fodorites, but Bay Area and even So Cal.
