Yellowstone Snowmobile Recommendation

We're a family of 4 traveling to Jackson Hole in December. We'd like to do a one-day snowmobile tour of Yellowstone. Can anyone recommend a snowmobile outfitter? There are several in the area and we'd like to go with a good group.

I did a snowmobile tour in Yellowstone many years ago. Do they still allow that? I know there was talk of doing away with the snowmobiles inside Yellowstone. Anyway, that was such a fun trip!!! Really!!! I would do it again in a heartbeat!! The group I used was called Ole Faithful Snowmobile Tours. My experience with them was very good!!!

Two years ago I rented a machine from Two Top Snowmobile in West Yellowstone. At that time you did not need a guide to take a snowmobile in the park. Have not been keeping up with any changes in that policy. There was talk of needing to take a guide with you. There is no need for a guide, in my opinion, as you must stay on the groomed trails (snow covered roads). They will rent you a one piece snow suit, helmet (required) and boots. The drivers must also have their drivers licenses with them. For a list of authorized companies check out www.nps.gov/yell/planvisit/services/wintbusn.htm

Be sure to take the optional insurance. My friend left $1000 behind for the damage she incurred when she ran into a tree.

The guide idea is not to keep you from getting lost-it's because so many snowmobilers were ignoring regulations, going off the roads, and harassing wildlife.

So that you are not disappointed get more info. before leaving - I don't think that snowmobile access starts until sometime in Jan.At some point in the winter, tracked motorcoach trips are also available.

The motorcoach trips are on a snowcat type of thing. Anyway, we did that as I was very pregnant at the time. We really enjoyed the trip, although it was still very cold in that thing! We did rent snowmobiles in West Yellowstone, and while I could not ride, my husband had a blast.
