Yellowstone National Park in Aug
We have reservations for the Canyon Cabins (I think...I didn't make them) for the 20 and 21 of August. Can anyone tell me about them.
Would be a great help as we don't know much about them...Thanks!!

It depends on the level of the cabin -- level in terms of quality. The Western Cabins are generally ok anywhere in the park. The Frontier level is acceptable if you are not too picky. The Pioneer level is grim, in my opinion. If the rain is pouring, they beat a tent, and they have running water.
Of course a high percentage of the earth's population would be glad to have one.
Canyon is a good location. High enough to cool off at night and close to the falls of the Yellowstone, which are magnificent.

At Canyon there is even a budget level of cabins.
Having seen the Pioneer Cabins, I can imagine that the budget level must be well below the poverty line.
I just hope your reservation maker had some idea what he was doing.
You can call and find out what kind of cabin you have at 307.344.7311.
Or if you have the reservation number you can check and modify on-line.
Cabins at canyon above the lowest two levels are still available. Of course it depends on who is paying and what he or she is willing to pay.
I know I would not let my father make my reservations once I became an adult.
He would book the cheapest thing he could find.
I remember staying in the cheapos my first visit there before I finished college. The beds were like they had undergone folding and faulting.
The cabin itself was uninsulated. The temperature dropped to near freezing.
The cabin has a wood burning stove in it for heat, but scarcely any firewood.
What there was lasted about 2 hours.
Water was supplied out of a bucket that you filled at a faucet. The bathroom facilities were in a central building.
I got up the next morning to go to the central facility when a man carrying a bucket ran into the north end of a south bound half grown bear. He yelled loudly in surprise and the frightened bear ran straight into the women's end of the bathhouse. About 7 or 8 females of various ages, shapes and sizes in various states of dress and undress came screaming out of the bathhouse followed by a bewildered looking bear.
The bear at least had sense enough at that point to escape to the woods.
All the poor bear was doing was standing there with his nose in a sack when all hell broke loose.
It was one of the funniest scenes I have ever witnessed.

thanks for the story bob_brown.
After camping in the rain for two weeks in Germany...I think that I can handle a barely there fire and freezeing temps. Not to worried about that...just curious about what exactly I was getting myself into.
