Dilemmas! Dilemmas!

I have a tripped planned and booked for Yellowstone and Grand Teton in mid-August. I already have rooms reserved in Yellowstone--2 nights in Frontier Cabins at Canyon Lodge and 2 nights in Grant Village. I'm thinking of cancelling my 2 nights at Grant Village and booking a room in West Yellowstone (I don't know if my 2 kids, 11 & 16 and "live" for 6 days (2 in Colter Bay) without a TV and pool.) Anyway, I'm looking for suggestions: should I keep my rooms at Grant Village, or book in West Yellowstone (Yellowstone Lodge, Holiday Inn, Greywolf Inn, etc. all have rooms available)?? I realize I will be adding approximately 50 miles onto my trip back to Jackson. Help! Thanks!

We got back a couple of weeks ago from the Yellowstone trip. I was advised here by a very sage poster that the Grant Village accommodations were absolute abominations. We cancelled out of GV and rebooked the Pioneer Cabins at Canyon. The cabins were fine but hardly luxurious...a real throwback to the 60s. When was last time you saw a bathroom with turquoise tile and mustard yellow walls???

The no TV thing was not a big deal for our 13 YO. Some of the best wildlife can be spotted in the early evening. We mostly didn't get back to the cabin until 8:30 or 9 so there wasn't a lot of hanging around time. We had plenty of reading material and everyone had an IPod or a personal CD player.

When you do Yellowstone, you spend a lot of time driving around seeing all the sights. It's not the kind of place you sit around the pool and relax.

On the other hand, there really isn't any need to move from Canyon to Grant Village since they are pretty close together. Being over on the west side for part of your trip would make more sense.

Thank you for your advice. Anyone else have information on the Grant Village Accommodations? I've stayed at Yavapai Lodge at the Grand Canyon...is Grant Village similar to Yavapai?

We stayed at Grant Village a couple of years ago, but would NOT do it again. The accommodations were fine, really. Obviously, no TV, which we expected. What disappointed me was that it just seemed like a dormatory stuck in a parking lot.....no place to sit outside to enjoy the nature......we just felt very confined there. I would have preferred going to West Yellowstone where in the evenings you could be outside, have a pool for the kids to swim in, etc.

One factor that made us somewhat unsettled when we stayed there was that there were mountain lions roaming through the parking lot the day we checked in, and there were warnings posted to watch out for these animals. As the only place to eat was a walk through the woods for dinner, we were a little nervous with our young children walking through the woods!!!

Thanks! I've decided to book two nights at the Best Western Desert Inn in West Yellowstone. It just sounds more appealing!!
