Yellowstone, Cheyenne (rodeo), Mt Rushmore- Can we do it??

2 adults and 3 kids- 8,10,12. Wanting to go to Cheyenne Rodeo and also see Mt Rushmore. Trying to decide if we should throw in Yellowstone while we are that far north. Is there a good stop in between Cheyenne and Yellowstone to break up the car travel??

Where are you coming from and where are you headed for afterward? If there is a rodeo at the right time in Cody, that would work for a stop in between Yellowstone and Rapid City. Devil's Tower is something you should not miss in NE Wyoming.

Coming and going from Dallas by plane. Struggling with spending 5 days in yellowstone and then driving to Cheyenne for rodeo and then wanting to tack on Mt. Rushmore. Seems like a lot of car traveling!

I would fly into one (Cheyenne) and out of the other (Rapid City) and leave Yellowstone/Grand Tetons for another trip. BUT, the issue could be what airline you are using.

American has service from DFW to Rapid City but not to Cheyenne. I suppose you could use United through Denver.

The drive between Cheyenne and the Black Hills could easily be altered to include Devils Tower.

OR, fly to Denver, rent the car and drop it in Rapid and fly home, both on American.

Any great ideas on where to stay at Mt Rushmore? I have abandoned Yellowstone- another trip.

Booked air bnb for cheyenne. Looking to do Badlands and some hiking in addition to Rushmore.

Hotels are very expensive during Frontier Days in Cheyenne. Last year we were able to use our Wyndham rewards points to stay. So if you happen to be in that or other reward program, be sure to check it out.

Mt Rushmore is WITHIN the SD Black Hills - SD Badlands are about an hour farther East. There's a lot of fun things to see/do there, besides Mt Rushmore - drive Custer State Palk to see bison, antelope, etc., tour Jewel or Wind Caves,
prehistoric Mammoth Dig Site/Museum, Reptile Gardens, Deadwood, to name a few. All sites are in an easy day-drive area if you stay near/in either Hill City, Custer or Keystone. We've had good luck at the Golden Spike Best Western in Hill City & Holiday Inn Express in Custer. (small towns with several good restaurants/shops). Hill City has an Old West train that goes to Keystone several times a day, if you're interested, and Mt Rushmore also has a night-view program in addition to daytime visits.
