What is the current situation at the World Trade Center Site? Do you still need tickets to access the viewing platform? If so, where do you get them?

When I went to the site about a year ago, I didn't need tickets to the platform. And I am pretty sure I read that they are not needed at all now...I think the crowds have thinned out enough that you can just go down there. I do recommend you stop by, even though it bears little resemblance to the site the first year after 9/11, it is still a very moving thing to see.

There is no platform and the area is viewable around the entire "block". Tickets were discontinued over a year and a half ago. Chambers St. subway is across the street from some displays. You can get an elevated view from the winter Garden all other views are street level.

No tickets, no viewing platform. It looks like a huge construction site now, surrounded by fences etc. Of course you can go down there and have a look. Please don't purchase any of the exploitive "ground zero" souvenirs. Makes me sick.

We were at the WTC site a few weeks ago. While it is now a construction site, it is a very moving experience. The list of the victims and the signs that explain what happened that terrible day bring tears to your eyes. People are still posting memorials to their loved ones.
You must visit St. Paul's Chapel when you go there. It's just a block away. The effort put forth by this church to accomodate the rescue workers is phenominal. The tributes and displays are very touching.

One subway station close to the site is Fulton Street. Chambers Street is blocks away.

I am not trying to start a flamefest but this thread is offensive to me. I cannot pinpoint why but it just is offensive.

My opinion -- what it boils down to is that we who live here in New York City and personally experienced 9/11 have a very different perspective than those people who do not live in New York.

Let's just leave it at that, folks. No need to get upset. New Yorkers are very sensitive about the WTC site and 9/11.

Te best viweing area to see the WTC site is from the Winter Garden inside the World Financial Center.

I'm not from New York, I didn't lose anyone in the Sept 11th tragedy, and I don't want to offend anyone who lives there, or who did lose someone.

But I wonder if some people who want to see the WTC site might be family members or friends of those who were lost, who are just now getting the courage to visit the last known place their loved one was? I don't think that everyone who visits the WTC site is there to gawk or take touristy photos. I think a good number of people who visit really are paying tribute, and are probably offering prayers to the spirits and the memories of those who lost their lives on that terrible day.

Brimham, I truly believe that people do want to see the site, pay their respects, and say a prayer. Seeing the way the country and the rest of the world came together after that horrible day gives one a lot of faith in humanity.
