I have a trip booked and paid for to WDW 2nd week of May. Would you feel safe in WDW at this time? Does anyone know of any security measures Disney has taken to protect their guests?

Yes, I wouldn't hesitate to go. I'm not quite sure what security measures they could take, other than searching bags and backpacks, which they've been doing since 9/11.

I read that they have also restricted air space above both Disney Parks, as well as NYC and DC.

I would go. And I would worry more about blood pressure going up because of the heat then of safety.

I would totally go. As Kristy said they've resricted the air space.. and I'm sure security is pretty beefed up.

I have plans to go to Disney World on May 1-6th. There is no way I'm cancelling. I'm not going to let the war get in my way of having a good time.

Thanks everyone! We live just outside NYC and it is crazy! We have been looking forward to our WDW trip for quite some time. I had a moment of weakness, but after thinking about it and reading your posts there is no way we will cancel. Sometimes you just need to feel you are not alone! Thanks again.

We are leaving for WDW and IOA on Monday. I will write when we return to tell you what they are doing security-wise. I'm sure by May, things will be much quieter.

If you can handle WDW itself, then you certainly have the fortitude to continue on with your vacation.

I would be more worried about having a heart attack due to sticker shock.....we went there pre 9/11 and I almost keeled over at the cost of ridiculous things at WDW. When I have kids Disney will not exist to them!!!!

Speaking as someone who is sending my child there to intern next month, I feel it is probably safer there than at my grocery store. Disney provides excellent security and has a huge interest in making sure that nothing happens there. Please have a wonderful time!

Everyone: Please cancel your vacation plans. With fewer people on the planes and in the hotels, the rates will go down. (So will waiting in line.)

You bet I'd go! We went a few weeks after 9/11 and it was great. A lot of people had cancelled (which is how we got into the hotel we stayed in) and the park wasn't too crowded.

I've also been there the beginning of May and the crowds aren't bad.

Actually prices had come back up to pre 9/11 levels in the past year when everyone relaxed and realized they weren't going to put off traveling indefinitely. Now the fear is apparently back in a big way for some people. The travel industry is in for another big down turn.

You see County police and lots of security at the theme parks 24/7 and yes there is restricted airspace over WDW in Orlando. They do a good job at keeping it safe for everyone

My entire family works in Washington DC and we live around the washington area in pretty much of a circle. The hype is ridiculous and has kind of reached a peak when they issued gas masks to government employees and those employees' families are at home (in the same area) maskless!!

Two of my kids and their families have said "Kafooeey on all this" for as much as we are targets here, we'll go to WDW and have a good time being targets there. They're leaving in 10 days and they'll probably have a ball.

Maybe life will be back to normal by then.

Sandy, I just got back from Orlando yesterday from a week long trip and it was fine. We went to Disney and Universal. No big deal. As someone else pointed out, after Tuesday, planes were no longer allowed to fly over the parks.

I agree with GoTravel. We just returned, and it was no problem. Security at the Orlando airport and at the gates took a few minutes, but no big deal. I only saw siteseeing helicopters overhead at the parks. I never felt unsafe. Post if you have more questions.
