Would like input on Renaissance Madison Hotel in Seattle

Friends can get us a good deal there for August---$49 a night! Has anyone stayed here? Renaissance is part of the Marriott chain so I'm thinking we should grab this but would like to hear from someone who can give first hand info on this hotel.

The main "problem" if you want to call it that with this hotel is its location - it's next to the freeway at the top of a steep hill in the high-rise office core of Seattle, quite some distance from the Pike Market, central waterfront, etc. The hotel itself is maybe 30 years old, has all the usual conveniences, and is not far from business-oriented restaurants, etc. Downtown Seattle is not all that spread out (albeit hilly) so it's not like you're in the boonies. $49 for August is a great rate - try not to get a room next to the freeway if you can, but I certainly wouldn't poopoo that rate.

I have stayed here, about 2 years ago. The room was big with a window seat, we faced the sound which was really pretty. As John said it's a tough hike on foot but you can cab cheaply around the downtown area if you like. I liked the hotel and would absolutely stay there for $49! Wow!

Better than cabs, Seattle has great bus service that was free (is it still?) in the downtown area!

Stayed at this hotel a few years ago and loved it! Stayed on the club floor for $120. a night which included breakfast and afternoon drinks & app. As far as the hills it was a hike, but if you like to walk it's not that big of a deal.
