We took the WYDC in late-Feb. All types of people on board: girlfriends celebrating birthdays, a large family group celebrating marker birthdays, anniversary couples, some families, and of course, tourists like us!

Jackets are required for men. Bring a wrap so you too can enjoy the view from the deck when the ship goes by the Statue of Liberty.

Here's what I wrote in our trip report:

World Yacht Dinner Cruise: food was moderate as expected, though happily my Chilean Sea Bass was tasty; night view of NYC and Statue of Liberty were wonderful; live band and dancing were fun; service was great.

Tip: After the cruise, the limos that shark for disembarking passengers are negotiable: our driver went from $25 to $15 on his own.

Thanks so much for the info. Do you happen to remember if the ship had to be fully booked for the cruise to depart? Their web site states something to the effect that they reserve the right to re-book you up to two days prior.

We are only in town for four days, and wanted to do this for a birthday dinner, so re-booking wouldn't be an option for us.

Anybody else have experiences?

Statia, if you are going on a weekend, you probably don't have to worry about it.

We went on a Sunday and the ship was not full. In fact when my husband and I strolled around the ship, we stumbled upon a whole deck that had place settings, but was closed. The deck we were seated on wasn't full either as the table next to us was empty, as was one behind it. I really wasn't paying attn to capacity so I don't know how many other tables were empty.

I think if the ship is totally full, it might detract from the experience. As it was, the dance floor was pretty tight (I guess the people from the closed off deck would come down and dance too).

I had forgotten about the booking process. Some more of my experience: When I called they took our credit card number and told us they would charge the card the full amt if we cancelled or did not show. The operator at their # was actually quite rude, and when I asked for her name (I always like to get a name when I make reservations just in case there's a problem when we arrive), she hung up the phone on me! I think their policies are not customer-friendly as they can cancel a customer's reservation, as you mentioned, but their is no leniency for customers.

Of course, everything was fine with our dinner cruise, and my husband and I had fun going out on a "date".

Have a great time in NYC!

Thanks for the info. I think that we've decided to just stick to a restaurant for this trip, but we'll keep your info in mind for our next trip.

We are worried about the booking process that you described since we only have a couple of days. We wouldn't want to get changed to a different date that would depart after we've left NYC. That's what I understand can happen from their website.

Thanks again for the info, though.
