We are spending 2 nights in DC and wondered about the areas that we should be looking for hotels. WE need a family suite (with 2 teens) that has kitchen facilities. We are looking at the Embassy Suites downtown, the
Best Western New Hampshire Suites or the Washington Suites Georgetown. Any recommendations?

I have stayed at the Embassy Suites in Crystal City and at the BWNH Suites. The latter was cheaper, smaller, and more convenient. We did miss the huge ES breakfast, though; BWNH's is a nice comprehensive continental breakfast (wiht yogurt, waffles, etc.). We thought BWNH was a good value; we booked through Capitol Reservations (www.washingtondchotels.com).

I would stay at the Embassy Suites Washington DC Downtown at 1250 22nd Street. I stayed at that hotel last summer with my family for four days and was very satisfied with everything.

Georgetown is not on a subway line which makes it harder to get in and out of.

All three hotels are in good, lively areas. I have not been inside any of them, but as far as location goes, the only difference between them is that Georgetown does not have a metro stop (mentioned earlier), making it harder to sightsee via metro.

Try the St. James Suites in the Foggy Bottom area. Very quiet all suite hotel in a quiet residential area, yet very convenient to the Metro, sights, and Georgetown. Breakfast is provided daily and suites come with full kitchens.

My daughter and I were glad we stayed on a Metro route- made it so easy and safe to get around. You must see Georgetown, though. She loved the shopping, Potomac cruise and the restaurants along the water. It's easy and cheap to take a bus there- someone will always help you,I found! (Wash. people very friendly when I went)

The St. James Suites on 24th and K has one bedroom suites with a sofa bed in the living room and a full kitchen, as well as free continental breakfast. Stayed there many times with teenagers and the kitchen was great for their eating habits. It's about a block from the Foggy Bottom metro stop and you can walk to Dupont Circle, the White House area and Georgetown very easily.

We're in the same spot...2 adults & 2 teens...and we chose the Washington Suites Georgetown (which are at most on the extreme eastern edge of Georgetown, less than 2 blocks from the Foggy Bottom metro) arriving this weekend. Best value,best price and looks like the nicest. 1-bedroom suite w/a sofabed,full kitchen, free breakfast, etc.Used to be the Doubletree Suites. Good luck!We'll let you know how it went if you're interested and if your trip is later than ours...

With teens, stay in the Georgetown Suites. The town is alive late into the night with lots of other kids as it is a college town, GW Univ and Georgetown. Lots of good shopping and eating for the young. Georgetown now has a shuttle which is only .50 and takes you to Foggy Bottom metro or Dupont. Also, the tour trolley stops right outside the Georgetown Park Shops (mall) and you can get on and off through its route. You'll also be a block away from the waterfront for good walking and peoplewatching.
