I'd like to go to the Oregon Coast this February and spend some time in a cozy room with a fireplace where I can look out the window and storm watch? Any suggestions?

If you want a fabulous place for storm watching, I'd recommend looking into a room in Tofino on Vancouver Island.

Years ago we stayed in a great place with a fireplace in the room right on the beach with a balcony and view of Haystack Rock. Looking at web sites I believe it is now a Hallmark Inn. We had a great time there.

I'd recommend The Fireside in Yachats, Oregon. View is over a rocky area where even when the ocean is moderately calm there is great crashing at high tide, must be quite a show during a storm. Yachats is a small community north of Florence.

You must check--Bandon Oregon, few miles south of Coos Bay..There used to be a "storm watchers club"
that would contact its members when a "big one"was on the way. this small town has some great motels facing the ocean (usualy in Feb. very reasonable prices) One I've stayed at frequently is Sunset motel--even has access to some cabins right above the beach. Good luck---how I envy you!!!

We live in Oregon and have tried many. Our favorite is the Cavalier Condiminiums at Gleneden Beach, Oregon. It is very conveniently located - north of Newport and south of Lincoln city. There is a wonderful restaurant there called Chez Jeannette. They are privately owned but rented by the day or the week, or whatever. They all have 2 bedrooms and 2 baths and fireplaces and full kitchens. They are well off of the highway and right on the ocean with sliding doors to a small deck. And no - I don't own one. Rats!

Have stayed at the Adobe in Yachats and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone! It's old and not in good shape and the staff at the front desk is the pits. Can't answer the simpliest questions and if you call down there from your room the phone just rings and rings endlessly even in the midddle of the day. Far, far better and right nearby is the Overleaf in Yahats It's a great small place right on a walking trail with a beach at the end.

The O'dysius is fairly new, and looks fairly nice from the outside. They are not on the beach though and have a restaurant and another hotel between them and the beach.

Marian---thanks for your input. I'm taking the Adobe off my list and am thinking of either the Overleaf Lodge, Inn at Cape Kiwanda in Pacific City, or Starfish Point Condos in Newport. Are you familiar with these last two and if so what do you think?

I'm reviving this thread because going to the Oregon coast this winter and curling up by a fireplace and stormwatching is my idea of a good time. Maybe it's something I will plan for Jan. or feb. Anybody have any suggestions other than those already mentioned?

We had reservations at the Inn at Cape Kiwanda last weekend. We ended up not staying there. The rooms are nice, but the main road runs right in front of the hotel, so cars are going right by your deck. Across the road is a big parking lot, then on the other side of that is the beach. So, the "ocean view" rooms are really road and parking lot views. The website is very deceptive in this regard, IMHO.
