Winter getaway without skiing??

Hi,

Looking for a peaceful long weekend getaway. We don't ski, but might like to snowmobile one day, or hike/snowshoe and take in some nice scenery. A spa would be great as well.

We were thinking upstate NY or Vermont would be good spots (we would drive from NY area), but would appreciate some ideas!

Thanks in advance!

Not sure where you are starting but what about Quebec City or Montreal? (I know thats not US but they are great winter spots without skiing)

Thanks both of you!

Irish - prefer to drive but always open to suggestions!

irecommend - Thank you, Quebec is on the list, although we've been there before and were looking for something new.

Gurney's Inn in Montauk has a spa. If you enjoy good food & wine, Jedediah Hawkins in Jamesport and the North Fork Table & Inn both have great restaurants, nice rooms and proxmity to the North Fork wineries. You can also take a day trip by ferries to Shelter Island and/or the Hamptons.

Heading north, here's an option

I went to Stowe last year and loved it. You can do all the things you mentioned plus a horse drawn sleigh ride. It's a long drive from NY, though. The closest place (I've been to) would be Okemo/Killington. You can snowmobile there for sure. Also nice restaurants and shopping close by.
