Are planning to vist some winiries in Napa area and have tried to figure out which ones. Most people seem to recommend the
Robert Moldovi and Niebaum-Coppola. I know there are so many but really would like to know ones that were really worth going to.

My favorite is a little one on the Silverado called Robert Sinsky( I think thats the correct spelling).

Also can't pass up Mumm.

Benzinger, Freemark Abbey, Domaine Chandon, and Stag's Leap are a few of my favorites. ***kim***

We loved Cakebread Cellars and Schramsberg. Both came recommended on different boards I'm on. We also did the bigger names like Mondavi but got the better tours at the two I listed above. Cakebread is free, but make a reservation. Schramsberg is $20/person - also make reservations. They make champagne and store it in underground caves. Very different than your typical winery tour.

We have been to a couple dozen wineries in Napa over the years and our three favorites are Joseph Phelps (you need to make reservations), Clos Du Val, and Clos Pegase. We also really enjoyed Merryvale which is open later than most other wineries so it's crowded at night! These are our favorites for the wine, great servers, lack of crowdedness (besides Merryvale), and beautiful grounds and views.

We actually like sparkling wine alot. Mumm is a good location in case you are interested. Lovely terrace for tasting, served by wait staff as opposed to 'bellying up to the bar' as in many tasting rooms. I think the N-C winery and grounds are prettier than most, rather than having really good wine. Another winery that gets the 'wow' factor is Sterling, with their ride up to tasting room.

So many great wineries to choose from -it will be hard to choose just a few. Thanks again for all the suggestions. Maybe will try one or two larger ones and then maybe one or two smaller more unique ones over the two day period.

Just took the red-eye back from Napa this morning. Will post a trip report once I catch up on some sleep, but quick thoughts. Mondavi is good for an overall intro tour, though the wines aren't that special. Chandon was fun. But our best experience actually was at a teeny vineyard whose names escapes me at the moment (Van-something) simply because the guy doing the tasting was so obviously passionate about his work. I really recommend scheduling one or two of the big guys, and then just driving around and stopping in whatever little place looks interesting...
