Wineries and Wedding Reception
My son is interested in getting married at a romantic outdoor winery during the summertime. It would have to be in NY State since most of our family live in NYC. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

There are about a dozen wineries on the North Fork of Long Island and a couple on the South Fork. The one's on the North Fork begin just a few miles past Riverhead.
As people's tastes and asthetic sensibilities are different, I might suggest that he and his fiance take a ride out some weekend to look at the different options.
While I don't remember the name of all of them, I know many will have a website.

http://www.liwines.com/ is the website for the LI Wine Council. I am originally from the North Fork of LI and visit frequently. If you are interested in that area I would be happy to answer any questions you may have. My two favorite wineries on the North Fork for weddings are:
Pellegrini
http://www.pellegrinivineyards.com/
and Raphael
http://www.raphaelwine.com
but I highly agree with the poster above who suggested a drive out to the area since everyone's personal tastes are very different. There are currently almost 30 wineries on the East End of LI (both forks).

The 3 vineyards on the south fork of LI (the Hamptons) are Wolffer (aka Sagg Pond Vineyards) in Sagaponack-just outside Bridgehampton, Channing Daughters in Bridgehampton and Duck Walk in Water Mill-just east of Southampton. I've been to events at Channing Daughters-very nice. I think Wolffer has become very popular as a wedding venue. Their wines are quite good.
I think New York magazine may have had an article on vineyard weddings. You might want to search their archives on newyorkmetro.com
