We stayed 1 night in Wilmington, NC about 5 years ago on our way to Topsail Island. We really didn't care about amenities, just wanted the place to be clean. We used Priceline, which has always come through for us. There is nothing, out by the Airport.

Don't know where you're coming from, but the area around College and Market (I think it's Hwy. 17) has a lot of chain hotels and is about 10 minutes from the airport. You'd just want to avoid the 'downtown' hotels - I find it tougher to navigate through downtown than through the outskirts. It's where I'd stay coming back from Topsail to the airport, if I had to.

I agree with Seasweetie's post. Lots of chain hotels in that area, check online for prices.
