Williamsburg, VA and beyond
Family of 2 adults, 2 teens going to Williamsburg for a week later in July. Thought maybe at the end of the week, we would spend about 2 days in Maryland,Delaware or somewhere...I enjoy quaint towns, antique shopping; others enjoy outdoor activities. Would love to be within 2 plus hours of travel from Williamsburg. We are from Chapel Hill, NC and have already done alot in our home state. Any suggestions would be welcome!

How about up Rt 33 - Middlesex Co., Reedsville, maybe take a boat to Tangier Island? I don't know the names of those areas, but they're peninsulas north of Yorktown, extending into the Bay.
Peterburg & surrounding areas?
I like the DelMarVa peninsula, and you can catch boats to Tangier Is. from there too.

One option: you could go EAST on I-64 and across the 17 mile Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel to the Cape Charles area on the Eastern Shore. There is a Best Western motel right on the beach, just past the bridge - http://www.bwsunsetbeachresort.com/ - it has a GREAT beach right there. You can easily get there within 2 hours from Williamsburg.
Another option: go down Colonial Parkway to Yorktown and take the Coleman Bridge over the York River to Gloucester. historic sites in Gloucester, Mathews, Middlesex, Irvington, White Stone. Websites to check: www.mariner.org, www.qsl.net/w4rzb/gimuse.html, www.baygateways.net - on this site look at the Northern Neck, Middle Peninsula, & York River region. Have fun!
