Molly,
We've only been to Williamsburg once, but we really enjoyed staying in one of the small 'cottages' they have. We were one block from the main street, had a cottage to ourselves, with a fireplace. It was a bit pricey, but as I recall, less expensive than staying at the Inn, but more expensive than staying at the Lodge. As I haven't stayed at either the Inn or Lodge, I can't compare. Enjoy!

Our trip was postponed but here is the list we had narrowed down - The Liberty Rose B&B on Jamestown Road, the Newport House on S. henry Steet, and the Williamsburg Manor. I have heard mixed reactions to the last and also to The Williamsburg Sampler - We put this list together from suggestions and postings at www.bedanddbreakfast.com

We went to Williamsburg for the first time this fall and stayed at the Lodge. We got a great package through www.history.org -- our rate included a 3-day pass to Williamsburg, passes to Jamestown & Yorktown, and hot buffet breakfast at the Lodge.
The rooms at the Lodge were great -- comfy with reproduction antiques. The atmosphere is nice and wooded and the lobby of the Lodge has a roaring fire and a nice bar area. We enjoyed the breakfast. The best benefits, for us, were the ability to get easy tee-times at the golf courses and the fitness center, which has a pool, sauna, whirlpool and spa services (I got a massage). If you think those amenities are appealing, you might give it a try.

This may be too late but it might help someone doing a search later. I was just walking through CW this evening and spotted the Fife & Drum Inn. I keep forgetting about it and therefore have not recommended it yet. Its in a great location above the shops on Prince George Street right behind Merchant's Square. I toured it during an open house soon after they opened last year. It looks very comfortable and very nice. The rooms are small but the furniture is high quality and the bathrooms are lovely. Walking distance to CW, the Trellis, Cheese Shop, and our favorite coffeehouse, Aromas.
