Wild Dunes or IOP villa

We are trying to decide between a villa at Port O Call in the Wild Dunes area of Isle of Palms or the Sea Cabins in IOP proper. The Port O Call unit seems to be a bit nicer, and is more expensive (with taxes and fees around $600 I believe) Is it worth the extra cost to be at that end of the island? Which would be better for 2 kids- 15 and 10? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Wild Dunes is a "gated community" with beautiful landscaping, golf, tennis, beach club, walking & biking trails, restaurants, etc. and the rental units are very well maintain. Wild Dunes is somewhat akin to a resort rather than just a house you rent at the beach. You are paying extra for these amenities.

It is my experience that people who ask "if the extra cost is worth it" are genrally on a budget and are trying to get the most for their dollar. Whether or not the added amenities is worth the extra cost to you is purely a personal decision and depends on how those added expense will affect your pocket book and your overall vacation experience. I personally think you'd be better off at Wild Dunes but then money is not an issue for me. Don't get me wrong, your kids will probably enjoy themselves wherever you decide to rent.

You are right A_Traveller, I am sure the kids will have a fun time no matter where they stay! I think we are going to opt for the Sea Cabins. After talking to a rep from the rental agency, the Sea Cabins seem to be a nice, (albeit a bit small) choice for budget-conscious travellers. We have never been to Isle of Palms before, so we are excited to have found a place that is agreeable to our budget!

When you go to IOP you will cross the bridge, immediately on your right is a small shopping center (Red and White grocery store is the anchor) with a to go restaurant, the name of which eludes me just this minute. It is the shop on the end of the center closest to the bridge. They make fabulous cookies, great sandwiches and very good heat and serves. I highly recommend it to you.

Your kids will love IOP. We summered there many times when our boys were young.
