Why Does Everyone Here Want My REAL E-Mail?

I noticed this in post after post here. If I make a comment someone calls me and other anons "cowards" for not posting my "real" e-mail. And just why is that? So you can spam me? Track me down via my ISP? So companies can send me their advertisements? So you can send me your unwanted and unsolicited opinion of me via private e-mail? Is that what being courageous is all about? Funny. I had a different notion of the meaning.

Don't you have anything in the world better to do? Is this forum so much a part of your life that you feel thwarted if you can't contact me via direct e-mail?

Guess what? You aren't going to get my name, street address, home phone, work phone, children's names, their school locations, my hometown, my age, my height, my weight or anything else. If that frustrates you, tough. Find another target for your stalking tendencies and your bottled rage. But you can stop posting requests for my personal information and my "real" name and e-mail because you won't get it.

Well, I suppose I agree, Anon, but not necessarily with all of the hostility. A few years back, my e-mail somehow became known to every porn establishment and get-rich-quick artist in the country. I would log on to see scores of such spam messages at a time, and would have to delete them all before I could get down to business. I finally had to scrap that e-mail address, as nothing was successful at blocking all of that smut. So now, I don't give out my e-mail to anyone, not even e-tailers, and I have had no further problems. In fact, I think Fodors should just eliminate the e-mail address window and anyone who wishes to volunteer their e-mail can do so in the text.

If you've ever gotten a long, creepy e-mail from some of these people posting on these boards, you'll understand why most people want to remain anonymous! I know I do!

You people are paranoid, why get on the travel chat boards then ? you want to pick everyone's brain for information, the people responding are helpful and informative. Do you think they are after your bod, I doubt it.

I agree with Cindy (like I usually do). I just love her, don't you all?

Anyway, as I climb down from the Cindy shrine, let me say that I think names and e-mails should be voluntary here too. What once worked has now become a source for abuse.

Maybe the poster got one of those creepy e-mails (?) He/she sounded more security-conscious than hostile to me.

Jimminy, you're right. Getting creepy private emails is no fun. Happened to me, and from this site./

Noach, AMS and the other looney tunes are the reason I don't post my name. No, they've never spammed me, but then again I never give out my name or e-mail either. IMO, whether they are the same person or two different people, Noach/AMS is/are psychotic weirdos. Would you want them to have access to YOUR e-mail?

I don't see what difference it makes, posting with real names, fake names or real e-mail addresses. It's advice, it's what I came here for, and I don't care if the person leaves an e-mail or not. I feel safer not posting mine, with all the computer hacks and weirdos out there, some of whom seem parked on this site.

As for making rude comments, I don't pay attention to them or post under those headings anyway, so again, it makes no difference to me whether the rude people leave their e-mails or not. Refusing to acknowledge them is the best way to get rid of them.

This forum has so many fanatics and lunatics that it would be ridiculous to use your real name/e-mail.
