Does any one know why Tahiti is the only place for OWB's. Is it the tides???

I suspect it is because everything past the mean high tide mark is U.S. Govt territory. In other words, you can't have fee simple ownership over the water. So you would need to have a permit from a myriad of agencies to do such a thing, which for private enterprise is a fairly difficult thing to accomplish, especially for residential or commercial ventures.

It's not. They have them in the Maldives and Malayasia.

I love Overwater Bungalows.I would pay anything to stay in an OW Bungalow on Hawksnest Beach in St John,USVI.

Daniels Head village in Bermuda has them too!

Debbie if you would pay anything to stay in such bungalow you MUST go to Maldives. Yes, it is a long trip but it is soooooooooo amazing. Malaysia or Tahiti or Bora Bora do not even come close.

long ways. I know,I know,so is Tahiti but the stop was in Los Angeles not Saudi Arabia! It's a scary thought to travel over to those countries.Even as just a stop-
off to the Maldives. I'm sure it's an fabulous place to visit. My next
trip is this June and I'm going to
the island off from Puerto Rico called Vieques.It sounds wonderful.
No overwaters there either but I rented a 3 Bedroom/3 Bath house with a pool.Should be great.

Vieques is wonderful and you will love it! Pay no attention Mr. Hhhhmmm. I've been to Vieques and its sister island, Culebra. It was gorgeous. Some people cant stant to see others enjoy themselves. It hurts them I guess!

civilians!!)Actually just 1% of the island gets used for target practice. I read somewhere that the Navy is suppose to be out by April,
2003. And hmmm,that crack I made about civilians is meant to be funny. I'm not comfortable traveling over to Saudi Arabia.The thought makes me nervous.It's just me. Nothing I said was intended to offend anybody.

Debbie, we fly from the Newark to Paris (where we stay at least for one night) and then directly non-stop to Maldives.

Debra, I didn't realize that you can stop in Paris and then go straight to the Maldives from there!The flights I looked at had a stop-over
in Saudi Arabia!! Thanks for the info.Maybe I will consider a trip there next year.What airline did you fly?

Its because of the type of island formations. Boro Bora has a cental island and is surrounded by motus -- initially a ring of coral that builds up into islands. This creates a calm bay where over-water bungalos can survive. In Hawaii and most other islands, the waves would pummel the bungalos.

I have also looked into planning a trip to the Maldives but decided that flying to Saudia Arabia was not my cup of tea. What airline do you fly that has direct flights? Interesting to know they exist.

Nantucket Island, Massachusetts has some over water cottages in the harbor. Not exactly tropical, but still beautiful and very warm in the summer.
