Who else is disgusted with the Travel Channel?

While I agree that their programming could be a bit more consistent and updated (why keep showing the same Vegas show over and over again, and the insight into Tokyo just once?!?), it is still a pretty good channel.
I primarily watch it for Anthony Bourdain and I love the show where they have three people all experience the same trip, but on three different budgets.
I do wish they would do better with their programming so I would be tempted to actualy watch them during prime time.

WOW, I thought I was the lonely travel lover suffering from the "lack of" the once enjoyable travel shows offered through the travel channel. If I never see another world poker tour or haunted locations show, it couldn't bee to soon.
I too would like to contact the network to request for the return of more TRAVEL base shows, and I bring this suggestion from the 20 something group.
Likewise, I now tune in to the Fine living channel for the likes of: Your Private Island, ocean quest/voyager, etc.
I am sure the network can find a happy medium between the non travel and actual travel base shows...RIGHT!!fingers crossed

I am happy to report that, at least for me, the Travel Channel has vastly improved of late: for example, on Mondays, they now have 5Takes: Pacific Rim, which this season is featuring great destinations in Australia, New Zealand, and Southeast Asia, and Anthony Bourdain's excellent No Reservations. And they are running Globe Trekker each afternoon weekdays. This has really helped alter my perception that the station has become nothing but a shill for Vegas and poker. I'm willing to live with stupid junk like the Most Haunted stuff if they'll continue to balance it out with the other programs I've mentioned.

Yup, Anthony Bourdain is a GREAT anodyne for Samantha Brown's saccharin-ness. I enjoy them both, but I need them both to balance eachother out
Travel channel is learning -- Globe Trekker, Bourdain, etc. I also go to Fine Living and Food Network for Thirsty Traveler (what a great job!) and World at your Table

I know that I'm just reiterating a lot of whats been said here.... but the Travel Chanel has lost it's way. They caught the scent of the Vegas money wafting of the breeze and now have all these poker shows that have NOTHING to do with travel! They have cooking shows. Cooking? Thats why there's a freakin' cooking channel! They dumped "Lonely Planet" and started straying from their intent purpose.
As for Samantha Brown. I kind of like her. Actually, I do. I do like her. Rachel Ray I can do without. If I hear her refer to any food wrapped in bread as a "Sammy" one more time I'm gonna choke her. Besides....I haven't seen a top and bottom more mismatched since the last discovery show about icebergs. Travel Channel (yes, I'm talking to you!), get with the program and stick to what you're supposed to be doing. No one wants to watch other people play poker (No one. Really). If I want a cooking show there's a different channel for that. Either that or just change the name to "We're for sale! Wadda ya want us to show?!"

Completely agree. Reruns, poker, poker, poker and Las Vegas, Las Vegas Las Vegas. Very similar to the big change in the Food Network - it seems, same story. It seems as if some mucky muck decided to change original intent for both of these channels which used to offer something.

I have to ask, Just who is it that watches Poker????? Could anything be less appealing, maybe they could paint a room and we could watch it dry, or put some water on to boil, that might be a tad more exciting...
I love Samantha Brown, I wish I had her job, but she's slacking, she needs to hit the road again. I try to watch Take 5 but I don't like it, too much reality/MTV, not enough travel. I don't need to watch kids get drunk in Europe(or the Pacific Rim) on the cheap, I want to see beautiful scenery, great inns, restaurants worth ferreting out, spots not to miss, you know, programming that makes me want to book a flight.
It's like T&L magazine lately, the photographs are too artsy, like seeing someones hands holding a Lima bean is going to make me want to travel.....
