white mountains restaurants

First visit to the area! Staying 2 nights at the Mt. Washington Resort in the Bretton Arms Inn in early October. Called to make a dinner reservation in the Resort dining room and they said it is booked with a group, but they will be serving in the adjacent Princess Lounge with the same menu. Should we dine somewhere else? SHould we go to Stickney's Restaurant at the resort or the Bretton Arms Dining Room instead? Or other nice restaurants nearby that you would recommend?
We then will be in the Waitsfield/Warren, VT area for one night. Considering the restaurant at the Pitcher Inn or The Common Man. Any advice will be much appreciated.
THANKS!

If you can get a reservation at the White Mountain Cider Company in Bartlett it is well-worth the drive - excellent food and service, in a casual atmosphere -http://www.whitemountaincider.com. Have been to Bretton Arms twice, once was good, once was OK. (Have only been during the winter season though). Have not eaten at Stickney's. I can say that Fabian's is really hit or miss and would avoid it.

Have eaten at both Pitcher Inn and The Common Man and have had great meals at both.

Except for the main dining room at the Mount Washington, we haven't had good experiences at any of their other restaurants. Last year, the food in the main dining room was excellent (if a bit pricey), so if you can reserve in the Princess Lounge (very nice) and order from the same menu, I'd do that.

Otherwise, it's well worth a drive to Littleton (about 1/2 hour), as opposed to "dining" at Bretton Arms or Stickney's.

Our current favorite in Littleton is Bailiwicks Fine Restaurant in Thayers Inn.

Worth the drive for dinner also are the Rabbit Hill Inn (Lower Waterford, VT), Libby's Bisto (Gorham) and the Sunset Hill House, which is especially magnificent if you time your dinner for sunset, as the dining room has views to the Presidential Range...
