White House Tour

We have a tour of the White House early one morning following my father's interment at ANC. No bags of any kind are allowed. Any suggestions about where to leave cameras or purses during the brief visit? Hate to go all the way back to the hotel?

Maybe try one of the hotels nearby or the bag check at Union Station.

I don't recall seeing anywhere at the White House where you can leave bags. And let me tell you, they are serious about the security (unless you are attending a state dinner apparently). I would go back to the hotel if it is not too too inconvenient. BTW, the tour is cool! The secret service posted in all the rooms are a font of information, and tell some great stories.

This question gets asked a lot on TripAdvisor so you might search there. I believe your options will be limited because you have an early morning tour (i.e. you can't use lockers at the various Smithsonian museums). You could use the lockers at Union Station, but that might be farther away from the White House than your hotel is. Anyway, you can check their website for details:

If you can't take your purse into the White House, why do you need it on the walk/cab/metro ride TO the White House? Can't you just put your ID/credit card/cash in a pocket?

There are some lockers at the Smithsonian Museum of American History, and maybe some of the other museums on the Mall.

I have read at TripAdvisor that the Willard hotel will allow people to leave stuff there
