Are you departing again the following day out of JFK? Otherwise, there's NO reason to stay near the airport. The area near the airport is not very nice. Do you realize you can take a train into Manhattan from JFK for as little as $7? There are 2 Ys in Manhattan, both of which are good and popular, the Vanderbilt Y and the Westside Y.

I don't know about any of these Y's but have found a good review on hostelz.com for the one in Flushing.

It doesn't give it many stars though relative to the other places they list.

It also doesn't explain how to get there from JFK other than taking a 20 min. taxi ride. If you have to go back to the airport the following day, that doesn't sound like a great option.

The Y in Jamaica sounds like it's in a more convenient location for transportation. YOu can take the train there which will cost $5.

tripadvisor.com is another place to check for reviews.

Would help to know what your budget is and what you plan to do the following day(s).

Don;t know where the Y is in Jamaica - but much of that area is not very pleasant - and without knowing exact details I would never reco anyone stay there.

No, the Flushing location is evidently near the Jamaica train station so you could take the AIRTRAIN from JFK to get there. They say they're 2 blocks from the station. BUT I'd still be very worried without more info about the place. YOu haven't answered about where you go next. If you're staying in NY, you might as well go there when you arrive. It's not that much further than Flushing.
