How'd I miss this one??? I hate when work gets in the way.

We had a good meal at Wahoo's in Jan. But....that location has been snake bit since Margarita's went belly up.

Scotty's BBQ was very good. I'm still pizzed that I left my doggie box there with a lot of the brisket I was going to eat after a "final final" at the Sand Bar on the home made bread from Full Moon Bakery. The order of pulled pork/brisket combo was even filling for ME!

The seating in the restaurant is layered so even the back seats can see out the window over the park and see the ocean.
I heard the owner may have some connection to the writers of the Ultimate Guide books?
WARNING: If you're over 6'3" be careful when you walk underneath the building! You can run into the pole that warns you about the low ceiling!

Put Olympic Cafe on your list. Esp for b'fast.
Carnitas and eggs....Kalua Pork b'fast burrito.

Quick bite...The Whole Enchilada right near Kintaros...ditto the Korean BBQ. Kuim Chee soup! Ooohhhhhhh Baby!!!

Hey Kal, where's the Full Moon Bakery?

And, just how the hell are we going to manage to eat at all these places?

i2,
You should have no trouble. Afterall we all know there is nothing else to do on Kaua`i except eat indoors all day because it is always raining. Right?

The reason that I suggested certain wines for your loco moco was because the thread is entitled "Which wine and dine...."

As to the "Moco-off" that Auntie Maria was referring to, it was not a competition but an opportunity to compare two different products. The lesser was from Cooke Street Diner and yes, the better was from Karen's Kitchen.

As to the dim sum carts, I advise going early, say by 10:30. As it gets busy, aggressive patrons walk over to the carts and steer it in the direction of their tables. This is the reality of life in Asia.

PPC...thanks for all of the food advice. "Wine and dine" is just an expression that I guess I used to loosely. The only things I know about wine is whether or not I like it when I taste it!!

So, if you suggest Pinot Noir or Zinfandel.........I know I will like them with my loco moco!!

And, I did read the loco moco post and saw where you and auntieM met in the middle for the taste test!!

iceeu2 - since you're not just interested in dinner - while on Oahu drive to Kailua one morning for breakfast and stop at Boots & Kimo's - they have delicious macadamia nut pancakes. Very small place - but, hey , those places always have the best food and it's worth the wait for a table.

Just my 2 cents regarding the food at Mei Sum. Third rate fare at best, if you are not familiar with dim sum and want to experience it, I guess this is an ok place and resonably priced. However if you know good dim sum, its a waste of time and money. The most interesting thing I found there was watching tiny plastic baggies change hands outside on the sidewalk.

alohaaa, i2 (check your e-mail),

My local buddies really like KPasta. They usually get it as take out. Every darn time we thought of it we had already had dinner. :-<

Oh well, we'll try it in around 289 mo' days if the religious police or Supreme Court hasn't shut it down. :-"

Oh...and for the record, the bakery's name is "Country Moon Rising" and not Full Moon. Sorry.
I hate when I get my moons mixed up.:-"

The bread rivals the bakery in the Kukui Grove Shop/Ctr.

I had some excellent dining in Waikiki recently, including L'Uraku (Hawaiian regional with a French twist), Diamond Head Grill (in the W Hotel) and La Mer (which was an amazing dining experience from food to wine to service to atmosphere).

We were on a limited budget, so we can't eat at alot of nice places, but we just got back from Kauai and ate ourselves to death....Highly recommend Scotty's (a postcard waiting to happen) because the view is AWESOME...we had lunch there twice(inexpensive considering the view), Kauai Pasta was good for the price but has no atmosphere at all...Roys was great as advertised but we can only afford to eat there once...Bali Hai great for b'fast as it was raining so had lots of waterfalls....A pacific cafe was closed , which I wasnt aware of....nothing in the guidebooks about that....Never made it to the shrimp shack, but will try to get there on our next trip....I'll be coming back in a few years.....

Oh, Kauai, the most beautiful and serene place in the world...Lihue BBQ is a must. We also liked what Duke's had to offer as well as Roy's and were stunned by how good the desserts were. When we went up to the Princeville area, we enjoyed Neide's. A little difficult to figure out where it was, but it was great. We stopped at Jo-Jo's on our way to the canyon and afterwards stopped at Wrangler's for dinner. Also did lunch at Tomkats a couple of times. So many more really good places. Can't wait to go back.
