My husband and I live in Michigan and are looking for a great warm getaway vacation.

Can anyone recommend the warmest city/state in the United States?

Hawaii is out of the question, it is way too far.

We want to visit 12/27/02 through 1/1/03.

Florida, Carribbean or Mexico
They are not all states, I know, but the only other options.
Arizona or Palm Springs, are warm but not hot

My guesses: Miami, Phoenix, San Diego, Palm Springs

There is a website that will give the average monthly highs for each state. Not sure what it is, but probably easy to find.

I did find an average for Arizona and it said 54 degrees. I thought that there was an error on that.

We would love to see the grand Canyon and stay in Scottsdale also.

I'll check into those other places such as CA and FL in addition to Arizona even further.

The Grand Canyon will be damned cold, and probably snowing, in late December. Phoenix/Tucson/Scottsdale, however, will be warm and comfortable, but not hot. Unless the pools are heated or you are an eskimo, you won't be running about in your swimsuit.

Were I you, I'd head for the Carribean.

Southern Florida will grant you the warmest temps in the winter. Those who actually still own winter coats only use them when it dips to a frigid 52 degrees or so. The Keys are always a bit cooler than areas such as Naples or Miami.

South Florida can be warm or cold....it just depends. I live here and some years I can wear shorts on Christmas Day, other years a sweatshirt and jacket are not warm enough. Most years will fall somewhere in between. Even on the warmest years, I definitely wouldn't call it swimming weather. Of course I've been here 21 years now, so I need a sweater or jacket when it dips below 70 degrees! (Originally from Ohio, so I do understand your pain!) Any chance you could go to the Caribbean since it is warm pretty much year around there (not the Bahamas though)?

Why not Puerto Rico--it is a U.S. territory, warm, all the U.S. eateries. Give it a thought.

Try one of the Out Islands of the Bahamas, Harbor Island, Exuma etc. or Naples/Ft. Myers area in Florida.

Be a winter texan, what about South Padre Island? We are there Jan. & Feb. and temps are 60-85.

Average high in Brownsville TX (south of Padre Island) is only 70 and 73 for Jan and Feb so I wouldn't go ther looking for temps in the 80's as implied above.

Truth - if the AVERAGE is 70 / 73F - then there certainly would be frequent 80's. In order to average 73 the actual temps could be anywhere from 55 to 90. here (not Texas - only using as an example) last week's normal high was 75F but we were in the high 80's all week. This week the normal high is 73F and we are in the mid 60's.

Average means AVERAGE.

Skip the U.S. and go to Cancun, Mexico. If not, Naples, Fla. would be the warmest area in the US I've been too. I have had to wear a sweat shirt though.

Average number of days in Jan and Feb above 80: 6.5

With 24 days a month below 80, as I said, I wouldn't go there expecting temps in the 80's.
