Which overnight stop between Homer and Anchorage ?

we will have our flightseeing trip to Katmai from Homer on aug 28th. Overnight in Homer.
Our return flight is 30th at 03:00pm so I still have the last night of 29th open to fix.
Have heard that driving time from Homer to Anchorage is about 4 to 5 hours and we would not make it the day of departure !! We might miss the flight for whatever reason.....!
So I was wondering where to stop on 29th inbetween. At that time of the trip, before leaving and flying back to EU, a real alaskan scenic spot with a great view is our priority !

thank you !!

Cooper Landing is a nice spot and it's much closer to Anchorage than the Kenai-Soldotna area. More scenic too.

If you can, spend the night at the Princess Kenai Lodge (or is it Kenai Princess Lodge?) in Cooper Landing and be sure to eat at least one meal in the beautiful dining room!
