Which Musical

Any recommendations for an upbeat musical that we can get tickets for in June. I heard Les Miserables is depressing. Was thinking of Rent or Aida. Please advice.

I'd skip Rent as well if you don't want a depressing musical. Current great musicals include Contact, Fosse (wonderful dancing) and Kiss Me Kate. AIDA is supposed to be good as well, I just haven't had the opportunity to see it yet.

I saw "The Producers" last week and thought it was hilarious. We bought our tickets through telecharge.com. You may still be able to get tix for June even though they're selling out like crazy.

None of your selections is actually upbeat with a happy ending!
Try The Full Monty, The Producers, Kiss Me Kate or Chicago. All are excellent shows with upbeat endings!

We saw Aida last week. The whole family ( ages 13-55 ) really enjoyed it!It is not depressing at all--I do not want to say too much to spoil anything for anyone--but I would recommend it highly! The music and singing are terrific.

I forgot to mention that we have also seen Rent. I would recommend Aida over Rent. Particularly if you are looking for something upbeat.

Not quite sure what your tastes are. I thought Les Mis was very good, sad, but also funny, romantic and uplifting.

For upbeat fluffy musicals try: Annie Get Your Gun, Chicago, Bells Are Ringing, 42nd Street, Music Man, Kiss Me Kate.

To me Rent is a bit depressing with its AIDS theme.

If you want upbeat try Mamma Mia. Although it may be hard to get tix, it is very much "upbeat"!

You're a bit premature, DSK, Mamma Mia doesn't open in NY until October!
