which monument/memorial for sun sensitive person
Hello,
Another question (as usual).
We have a sun/heat sensitive person
and the monuments/memorials appear to be in
open air (not covered).
Which of the monuments have some cover
so folks can take rest from sun
and/or rain when needed?
Referring to Washington monument, lincoln,
FDR, jefferson.
Thanks!

Lincoln memorial is very well covered. I went in the winter, and couldn't feel the cold so much. There's also a gift shop inside to the right, and a museum downstairs on the left that I would definitely recommend. The FDR memorial is not covered, just near water and fountains, etc. so there's a little breeze. Aside from those two I think everything else is out in the open air with no nearby escapes, but the FDR and Lincoln memorials are definitely must-sees. Also, a lot of monuments in the area have trees so there's shade, like near the Vietnam memorial.

Both the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials have cover. I'm not sure if the Washington Monument is open again, but if it is, there's no cover while you wait on line to get in. And the lines are long. Not sure about FDR.

Thanks.
I didn't know about waiting
in line to get to the memorials.
Is that the case for all of them or
just some of them?
Anything that involves waiting in line
out in the sun is a problem...
Thanks for the info!

The monuments really are beautiful at night.....that could be an option.
The only one you would have to wait in line to get in is Washington and there's no cover there. Most of the rest are open air but with place to find shade. Or at least move through at a quick pace.

Even people who aren't sun-sensitive often prefer to visit the monuments and memorials after dark -- most of them are beautifully lit. And they're almost the only thing that's still open after 5 PM.

I never ran into lines for the Lincoln memorial, although I do imagine it could get a little crowded. FDR shouldn't ever have lines, except maybe to take pictures next to the statues. No lines for the Vietnam or Korean Wars memorials. I think the Washington monument is the only one involving a line.
