Which Luggage?

So I saw two styles of luggage that I really liked. But I am having a hard time deciding between the two....

They are both 26 inch upright luggage with wheels. I really need this size and to go any smaller would be very uncomfortable.

The first choice is a black Samsonite upright luggage for 55 bucks.

The 2nd choice is a read American Airlines brand upright luggage for 35 bucks.

I am leaning towards the samsonite because of the price. But I also know that for the same price, I could get an off brand name that is two or three pieces.

Has anyone used Samsonite? Is it really better than other brands? (remember the infamous gorilla commercial where the gorilla can't destroy the samsonite bag?)...

Your input much appreciated.

Is this an April Fools joke? Well, just in case it isn't...A Samsonite for $55.? I'd guess it isn't the usual line of Samsonite luggage. SO if it is their budget line, I'd say in that price range it wouldn't really matter which one you chose. As long as it does you a few trips...it doesn't matter. Go for the red one. It will be easier to spot.

ilovetotravel29,

When you described the red American Airlines luggage, did you mean American Tourister? Samsonite makes these now along with the Samsonite brand. Both are very strong luggage that will last many a rough trip. But.... $35.00 and $55.00 must be a joke (or an off brand cheapee that is similar to the above). But beware, the cheapees don't last more than a couple of trips, zippers break, seams open etc. Pay more for the good ones and get them on sale!

I just realized, if you are traveling with your own car and move the luggage around yourself or by a friend, the cheapees are OK and will last with care. Just don't run over them.

I too loved the gorilla commercials. I did a lot of traveling at that time and my luggage did stand up, even when an airport start-up truck ran over a round hat box case I had (it crushed the case a bit, but nothing was damaged and the locks held) It was an old light blue Samsonite I had in the '60's.

I wish you a great trip. - Joan

Get whichever weighs less. Many of the airlines are putting weight limit on checked luggage and you'd be surprised how much luggage weighs before you even pack anything!

thank you everyone! i got the samsonite 26 inch upright. i worry a bit about the weight, but i think the limit is either 50 or 70 pounds, so I think i will be ok and not go over that.

thanks everyone!

It really doesn't make a bit of difference which luggage one buys because any the airlines are going to distroy them regardless. If one wants their luggage to stay in good condition I suggest buying ammo cans. They hold up much better.

I was going to suggest the Samsonite over the other because they do seem to be more sturdy (used to be a bellman, so I have seen many bags). The only downfall of the Samsonite is they can get very heavy (as mentioned). We personally have a red suitcase for the "easier to spot" advantage...however, now many people have red suitcases and so that may soon go out of the window! I think you made a good choice with the Samsonite!
