Which islands to visit
We are planning a trip to Hawaii for January 2001 for two weeks. All the information is great. Should we pick one island and do inter- island trips, or stay at one for a week and move to another for the second week. Which two would you pick to stay on? We own time shares so will be using them. Thanks in advance for any information.

I would personaly go to two islands also, both of which is Maui and Kauai. Although if you wanted to just stay two weeks at one island I would stay then at Maui. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

I recommend staying on two islands. I have only been to the islands once- stayed one week on Maui (at Maui Sunset condos in Kihei- a good centralized location) and one week on Oahu. I know many folks tend to recommend islands other than Oahu, but I really wanted to see the Arizona Memorial, the Iolani Palace, and several other things found only on Oahu. Stayed in a high-rise condo there just a few blocks off Waikiki.
We found so much to do on each of those two islands we never had time for a side trip to others. Will have to do that in another trip some day. Have fun !

Donna, 2 islands and depending on your interests the choice is yours. Maui should definatly be one and then choose between BI and Kauai. We've been 8 times and planning our 9th trip.
Maui has everything and should be included. The BI is large and the newest of the islands. Very rugged and beautiful in a different way. There is an active volcano, etc. Kauai is the garden isle, the lushest and greenest of all. Real laid back but a great place to relax and see some great sites.
We are sending son and his new wife to Kauai and Maui for their honeymoon in September.
Good luck

Donna,
I suggest you make a list of your priorities and then evaluate each island accordingly. I wouldn't do more than two islands in two weeks, unless you stay on Maui and take the ferry to Lanai.
Based on my priorities and what I know about each of the islands, I am planning on going to Oahu and Kauai when I will take my first trip to Hawaii.
Get as many brochures and books as you can to help in making your decision.
You can order free brochures from http://www.desteo.com (formerely wwwb.com)
Good luck and let us know what happens.

I vote Maui and Kauai. The BI didn't have enough to hold my interest for a week and Oahu is too commercial and crowded for my taste. Maui has nice beaches and beautiful things to see as does Kauai. Be sure to take a helicopter tour on both if you can swing it. We didn't do one on Kauai and I'm still sorry! We did on Maui and it was fantastic.

I have been to the top four islands. I would suggest Maui and Kauai for beaches and natural beauty. However, if you are interested in history, as I am, Oahu should be included. Hawaii is great too. We saw the volcano erupting when we were there (not long after it's extended eruption began). Hawaii is nice because of its huge variety of landscapes. The only one I would definitely include is Maui, as it offers great beaches, a lot to do, and lots of nature too. That said, my favorite island for natural beauty alone is Kauai. Hard choice, isn't it?
