All islands will have beaches were the breaks are small. The most popular is Waikiki

Go to the Surf shack outside Duke's on Waikiki.. its still owned by Dukes family... for about $40 per person, you'll get a beginners lesson on the Beach and about 45 minutes of surf time... Also ask the Instructors about the booth that has a photographer in the water taking your surf pics... you can buy a DVD of all your surfing stills and prove to your friends that you conquered the "big" wave... Its my favorite souvenier of our family trip... the kids on their boards with Diamondhead on the backround... priceless!!!

My daughter took a first-time lesson at Kiahuna (Poipu Beach, Kauai) in late July 2007. It was perfect (I took my own video)
