All of the hotels have excursions to Pearl Harbor. It is about a 20 minute ride from Waikiki. No need to fret over hotel, just make sure you get to Pearl Harbor early. It opens at 7:30 and don't think that mid week will ease up crowds it does not. Enjoy the park rangers do a great job at story telling. Don't forget to ask about how the local community was impacted. All Japanese Americans on Oahu were under the suspected of spying. Many Japanese American locals were separated from there families and sent to internment camps. Also most of Oahu was under Marshal law after blast. This stuff is all part of the story you rarely hear about. ENJOY!

If you want to splurge and really have a nice experience, I'd suggest the Shearaton Moana Surfrider. It's the oldest hotel and is seeped with history. Whether you do or don't stay there try to fit in one of there history sessions ... if I remember it lasts about an hour ... they also give you discount coupons for their restaurants. We enjoyed their beachfront restaurant ... can't remember the name...

Sheraton Moana = favorite hotel on Oahu request old banyon wing. I had a corner city view room I loved starring out at the ornate facade of the hotel exterior.
Join Starwood frequency program and get a 30% discount. ENJOY!!!!!!!

I agree the Moana Surfrider is a great hotel. However, I would not recomend it if you get a city view room. We stayed there last October and started with a city room. Coming from the east coast, I was ready for bed at 8 the first day. They have very thin windows and the street noise comes right through. This is a very active city and doesnt slow down till midnight and starts up at 6 am. Buses trucks motorbikes.
Moved to Ocean side and paid the extra. Enjoyed the soothing music in the evenings and sounds of the ocean. The other sheraton (Royal HAwaian) does not face the street but is set back and a garden view is fine there.

Hi,

We saw Pearl Harbor a little over a month ago. We stayed at the Outrigger Reef Hotel for two nights. It is on Wakiki Beach, the room was standard, and the food was okay.

The day we arrived at the hotel, we went to the concierge desk and arranged for a private shuttle to take us to Pearl Harbor, and then bring us back to hotel. It cost somewhere between $12-15 round trip per person.

The Outrigger Reef was good for us --it was convenient, I liked being on the beach, we weren't looking for anything outstanding since we were only there two nights, and had greater accommodations on Maui and Kauai.

Let me throw in my vote for the Sheraton Moana Surfrider.

Our first trip to Hawaii we stayed at the Moana and we were in the Banyon Wing. Lots of charm.

Second trip we stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village, not bad, but I didn't feel like we were in Hawaii until we took a ride to the Moana and looked around again.

Third trip, we have not gone yet, but you can bet your boots we will stay at the Moana.

Good advise given, to get to Pearl Harbor early. Tickets are passed out on a first come first served basis.

My husband and I stayed at the Sheraton Moana Surfrider for our 25th anniversary. Plane was late getting in (8:30 p.m) and our room was not ready yet. Never offered to upgrade or pay for dinner - we were starving. I would not recommend. Had ocean view room - very small. Staff not very friendly or helpful. Only good part was breakfast on lanai. Very good and view was gorgeous.

To the other Debby, so sorry you had a bad experience at the Moana.

When we arrived, everything was ready for us, we had two rooms, Mom, Dad and daughter in one, and our teen sons in the other. At check in they offered us pineapple juice and lei's (sp) We had no problems with the staff.

Debby, I still hope you were able to enjoy your trip, even if your experience at the Moana was not good.

Debbie
