No Barbara, I think he was referring to me. I'm at fault for starting this whole thing when I mentioned that SAN is just a 5min drive from downtown and is therefore by far the most convenient airport to use when one wants to visit San Diego.

My oh my, this is not about "being at fault", it's about keeping an open mind and suggesting helpful things to do for OP rather than closing down options. That's not our role.

Of course SAN is the closest - everybody including OP knows that, but OP is still asking for other options, so lets give options, shall we?

Ontario is an option, there are things to do and places to see on the way from there to San Diego, so if there's a savings involved in flying into Ontario (savings on air tickets is what brought OP here, remember?), and/or if those things to do and places to see appeal, it's up to OP to decide whether it is a viable option, not for us to say that it isn't.

About Tucson - that's simply asinine.

If the OP is coming from various cities in Mexico, or Tokyo or Shanghai, they can also consider using the Tijuana airport, TIJ. It's closer to San Diego than ONT or SNA. In fact, the airport is within feet of the US border.
