Kauai and Maui are defiantly the two islands you'd want to visit! If its a vacation your looking for Kaua'i is your answer! Na'pali Coast, Waimea Canyon, and Mt Waialeale (wettest spot on earth).. For Maui, Haleakala, and Makawao, and the road to Hana.. Hookipa.. if you want more info hit me up!

We spent 10 days in the same hotel on waikiki beach in December. We had a car and visited the entire island during our visit. We did helicopter tours, ATV rentals, whale watching, snorkeling, watched the huge waves at the pipeline and had lunch at turtle bay resort. There was even a cheesy zipline ride that thrilled us so much. My husbnd did NOT want to island hop. I'm so glad we didn't. It was one of our best vacations (and we've been to Europe 8 times). Shopping was terrific and some of the best meals in our life. (Hy's Steakhouse)
It just depends on what you want to do.

OP,
When you say 10 days, do you mean 10 full days in Hawaii? Or does that mean seven full days plus three for traveling to/from the mainland? If it's 10 full days, you could do two islands. Otherwise, I would pick one. And you really can't go wrong whichever island(s) you pick.

My favorite islands to visit are Oahu and Kauai. Kauai is great for the small, untouched island feel and the hiking is amazing! Oahu's north shore is so beautiful! There are so many amazing beaches and good places to eat!!
Here's a site I found that gives lots of good beaches and places to eat!! Hope it helps!!

Hi -
I just had this convo with someone at work. I'm on my 9th trip to Hawaii and we usually do a couple of islands.
I would say definitely Maui plus either Kauai or the BI. If you have never been there then the BI will give you a feel for a different kind of landscape. While Oahu can be nice on the NS, it is more crowded and IMHO the only reason to go there is to see Pearl Harbor.
Great hotel on the BI is the Marriott Waikoloa Beach.
For Maui, while I like the Kannapali beaches, we love Paia and Kihei and up country and that is more convenient to the Wailea area.
Either way, only move once and we like flying either first thing in the am or late afternoon.
