Which 2 islands for a 25th Anniversary?
Planning a Hawaii trip to celebrate our 25 Anniversary. We love Nature-snorkeling,hiking fishing, biking,& good food. We prefer quiet as opposed to busy cities & traffic(trying to get away from both). We would also like to see the volcanos and love history. Any suggestions for which 2 islands to visit? We are planning on 10 -12 days. Thanks for your help. It's appreciated.

Candy210, I would do maybe 5 Kauai, 5 Big Island, and one to two nights on Oahu (to see the important historical sights there, and it is wonderful) OR do Oahu, staying on the North Shore mostly, and the Big Island, because it is so Hawaiian. (You will almost certainly want to come back for another anniversary, and can see the other islands next time!

If you want to see a volcano in action, the Big Island of Hawaii has the only active volcano. That is where you will find Volcanos National Park. Check out these web sites for info and photos: http://www.nps.gov/havo/home.htm

Kauai,Kauai, Kauai! You can spend all your time in a pair of sandals and enjoy greenery like no where else. A trip to Waimea canyon and a stop at Jo-Jo's on your way up.
If you do Oahu, stay on the north (country) side and do day trips down to see Pearl Harbor and the Iolani Palace.

I agree with everyone who said Kaua'i and the Big Island. Make sure you stay on the west coast on the BI. We stayed outside of Hilo and ended up doing a lot of driving (2.5hrs one way) to the other side for snorkelling, fishing, etc. Even if we stayed a little to the south, it's still less than 2.5 hours to the Volcano, which is a must!
If you're interested in reef fishing versus deep sea fishing, let me know, I can recommend a great boat/captain.

I agree, Kakuai and the Big Island. We celebrated our 30th on Kauai in May and have already booked another trip for Sept.! We went to the Big Island for a daughters wedding and we thought the volcano was amazing. Have a great time!

I could not conceive of going to Hawaii and not staying on Maui. I would combine Maui with either Kauai or the Big Island. Iao Valley, Haleakala, beautiful beaches, and more ! - I've been to five of the Hawaiian islands several times and I say, "Maui no ka oi". Just my opinion...

Maui is getting so overbuilt that I hesitate to recommend it anymore. After living on Oahu for three years and declaring Maui my favorite island, I must admit I don't even go there anymore when I visit the islands. I agree on Kauai and the Big Island, with two days on Oahu.
