Where to stay solo in Kauai that isn't TOO quiet!

Planning a trip to Oahu for dh's work! We will be on Waikiki for 16 nights. (i know, a long time). I am thinking of taking a side trip while he works and go over to Kauai for 4-5 nights.

I don't want to spend a Lot, like less than $200/nt which really limits my options.

I have looked at VRBO for condos, but wonder if I will feel too isolated.

I know that dh and I will someday spend 5-6 nights at the Grand Hyatt, we have talked about that for next year.

I could stay at the Hilton for $188 or try Priceline.

I want to stay somewhere that I can have a drink at sunset, listen to music and not feel like I am totally alone.

Any ideas? Is the Northshore mainly for couples in condos? It's beautiful, but wonder if I will get bored with how mellow it is! I guess I might want mellow after Honolulu.

I know, it looks like I can't decide anything!!! Help!

beachkomer, we stayed last year at the brand spanking new Waipouli Beach Resort on the eastside. They do have a bar there and it is right across the street from the shopping center that Safeway is in. We rented thru vrbo.com and the condo we rented was listing # 107379.

You could also stay where Kal stays ( I don't know the name of the place), but it really near The Coconut Marketplace. Plus, there are some other hotels behind the Coconut Marketplace.

Tough job have to go to Hawaii for 16 days of work, huh?!!

Aloha

Thank you so much, I will look into that unit!

It's a rough gig, but someone's wife has to do it!

The Islander at the Beach http://www.resortquesthawaii.com/haw...yGroupId=25565 is next to Coconut Marketplace. You can see the small pool/hot tub with the bar on the left on their webcam. www.coconutmarketplace.com/Default.aspx Hula Girl Grill had live music when we were there a few years ago. There are several other condos and hotels right in that area.

The Waipouli Beach Resort sounds really nice. There are several restaurants in the Safeway center, aren't there?

You could rent a studio in Hanalei and walk to the different restaurants and bars in Hanalei.

How about Hanalei Bay Resort? They have a bar, restuarant, pools and beach, and it is in the Princeville Resort with all it has to offer. Have a great trip.

Ditto Islander on the Beach.

Good pool bar (The Sand Bar), walking distance to HukiLau Grill, Hula Girl, Eggbert's, Tradewinds, Kintaros, Monicos, Mema's...and if you like to walk....Lizard Lounge, Coconuts, and a few other places down Kapaa way.

I wouldn't personally prefer to stay in Kapa'a, so that's me. Too much traffic, among other problems.

Hanalei Bay resort is totally hit or miss. When its bad its bad. I think someone said their restaurant is closed.

I'd prefer Poipu, and it has plenty going on. I'm not sure where you can stay on your budget, or what time of year you'll be here. If it is summer $200 doesn't go as far as it will in the fall.

Aloha,

I love Kauai but most of it is rather quiet and romantic. Most of the hotels are over $200.00 in the Poipu area and certainly in Princeville as well. I doubt if you will find much for under $200.00. If you can get the Hilton for $188 I'd grab it and gravitate towards some clubs, bars, for people.

beachkomer, we also stay at Pono Kai. You may be able to google and find some decent rates there. It's very convenient to stroll down the streets of Kapaa town and to climb those stairs to the Olympic Cafe. Plus, Auntie Maria said the Ono Family Restaurant has reopened, and it's also right at Pono Market and best of all a great place for clothing called Tropical Tantrum!

Many years ago my DH had to spend some work time in Key West and I had to tag along! Such tough jobs we are often assigned!! The things we do for our men, huh?

I have looked at the blue bible on the Hanalei Bay Resort and also read a few reviews on Tripadvisor. The one review that made me hesitate is that the restaurant was closed and the couple had to drive to find dinner each night. (and that it was too quiet!)

I am leaning more towards the East side as mentioned.

I have "had" to tag along with DH to Eqypt, Paris, New York City, San Fran, etc; I just can't take it anymore! Hawaii is the LAST straw!

Thanks!

I really hated it when I had to go to Denmark with him, beachkomer! And, the times I have been forced to go to nice restaurants and cocktails parties......geez.......

Probably the worst of all was when I had to spend a week at The Cloister on Sea Island, GA. Gag me!

Sorry to mess up your thread, but I hope we can help you plan a great time!

I mentioned this thread to my husband last night - he said I could have joined him in Pittsburgh last week! (No offense, Pittsburgh-ites, it's a nice town, but it's not Hawaii, or New York, or Copenhagen!!)

I love The Pitt and even I would prefer NYC, CHI, or Europe.

Hanalei is also a very social little town. Not sure, but there may be something in your price range.

Daily requirements are walking the bay in the morning and then going to the bay for sunset. Walking to town for some evening acoustic or Surf Jones tunes with vacationers and locals who will become familiar. Browsing the shops. And exploring some of the best beaches in the world.......

Hanalei

Sunset at the pier
Priceless

Ok, that last post...I just started getting this dreamy Bali Hai vibe going...hmm...

Decisions, decisions!!

Well, I've skipped the trips with
DH to Afganistan,N.Korea,and a few
refugee camps. Gosh, that sounded terrible. What would Angelina think.

He did go to Croatia last year and said it was beautiful.

Thanks for the input, I'm not decided, so throw out more ideas if ya gott'em..

beachkomer,

The call of Bali Hai (Makana Peak) is hard to ignore.

I know, it's very taxing.

I can't even tell which way I'm leaning at this point. I have considered spliting the 4 nights 2 nights on the north and 2 on the east.

I won't have a lot to pack/unpack.
