Where to stay in Vegas

We are taking a trip to Vegas in October and have heard that MGM, New York New York and Monte Carlo are good hotels to stay in. We would like to know which one is the best one to stay in. With best room size, pool and buffett etc.

Would highly recommend the Monte Carlo - I've been there two times. MGM is nice but TOO HUGE for my taste - you can visit it - then walk across the street to the serenity of Monte Carlo (great pool too). NY NY is nice but dark and usually pretty crowded. We usually go to LV once a year - Monte Carlos will be our choice from now on. Hopes this helps.

Hello,

My traveling companions and I are also going to Vegas in October! You can say we are addicted since we go 2-3 times a year! We stay at a different hotel every time we go. The places you named are definetely nice hotels. MGM is a "city" and you may get tired of walking forever just to get to your room nightly! Monte Carlo is more on the elegant side, nice rooms, very classy lobby, great show (Lance Burton). NY NY is okay. But really when you consider all the glitz and grandeur of the strip, once you enter your hotel room - it's just that - a room. Some are just appointed better than others. Of course the MC, MGM, Caesars will defintely be better than San Remo, Tropicana, Holiday Inn. The Rio is definitely a choice to look at. It is an all-suite hotel - constant party going on throughout the entire hotel. It is very festive with the Rio de Janeiro theme. The rooms are oversized, comfortable, floor-to-ceiling windows. The showers have a window that looks out into the room (don't ask me why!). If you're lucky, you can get a room facing the strip - MAGNIFICENT VIEW. The Rio Carnival World Buffet is THE best in buffet dining. You can have any type of food - sushi, bbq, steak/potatoes, mesquite-grilled rabbit, chop suey. There are foods from all over the world. And the price ain't bad - no more than 10.00 for dinner. MGM's Oz buffet is great also, but more expensive than Rio and not as much food. Treasure Island has a nice buffet, reasonably priced and has mostly seafood. The hotel, I think with the best pool is, The Mirage.

Hope I've helped you. If you have more questions, (and I can answer them), feel free to email me.

Have a good time. Make Vegas a mini-trip for yourself at least twice yearly - once you go, you will be hooked. And rest assured, whenever you go back, the strip is never the same. Every time we go back, there is new construction going on for another mega-hotel! Currently, Mandalay Bay and Bellagio are going up. They will be awesome - more upscale.

Take Care.

I have been to Vegas in October and the weather is great-sunny & warm. Have stayed at Monte Carlo twice and MGM once. Monte Carlo is better-nice room, good restaurants and the pool area even has a wave pool. The buffet for breakfast was very good-also the steakhouse was excellent. MGM was just too big-the rooms though were very nice. I heard NewYork is very noisy but very interesting to visit. Rio is fun but too far from the main strip, you have to take a taxi everywhere.

We've been to Vegas a whole bunch of times and stayed at many places. We love the RIO. Great rooms, best buffet in Vegas and just a great place.
The Luxor is high on our list also. If you choose that, stay in the Towers. THose are the best rooms. It also has a nice breakfast buffet, but the Rio for dinner is the place.

The MGM is a city, but the dinner buffet is good. They are in the process of rebuilding the buffet room, so we did not get to try it out last month.

The Mirage is great also. A little more upscale, but worth it. You won't go wrong in any of the major hotels. Eat at the buffets, not at the expensive resturants. Go to Treasure Island to see the free Priate show outside. Take in Cirque de Solei. A great experience.

Have fun and good luck.

I've been to Las Vegas I don't know how many times and what I can tell you is this:
Almost every pool in Vegas is 3 1/2 feet deep or LESS. And unless you're springing for a deluxe suite at one of those hotels, you're going to get the same room no matter where you stay. If it's your first time, I'd suggest staying on the strip - you'll really want to see everything. Try the Excalubur - there's lots of kids and familys, but it's a great room at a good price and it's close to most of the strip.
If you're splurging and getting a suite, by all means go for Ceasars Palace - the suites there are amazing - all marble and the jacuzzi tub is just the ticket after a hard day pounding the strip.
The Rio is a great place to stay, and if you have your own car or dont mind taking a shuttle, it's another great place to stay. Feel free to email if you have other questions.

There are several threads dealing with this subject. Try looking at some of them for more ideas. You didn't mention price so my recommendations do NOT consider the cost.

My recommendations for best hotel in Las Vegas would be:

1. Rio - Best all around experience.

2. Caesars - Still one of the best.

3. Mirage

4. Flamingo Hilton - Greatest swimming pool in Las Vegas.

We just visited Las Vegas for the first time, stayed at The Luxor. Yes, the tower rooms are newer...just be sure to ask for non-smoking if that's your preference, we had to be moved. We walked the strip and visited every casino within walking distance (made it down to The Mirage) and BY FAR, our favorite, was The Flamingo Hilton...if for no other reason, THE POOL! We will stay there next time!

I like staying at the Stratosphere at the far end of the strip. This way to see the other casinos I have to walk there for exercise. By the time you go there the new Bellagro should be open...really an exquisite place.....no kids allowed though!
Just got back from Vegas...I need to go back this winter to visit my $$$$$ (ha)

I agree with all the above messages. NYNY is way too crowded. The MGM is where we always stay but only because they comp our room as we like to gamble. MGM just opened their 6.6. acre pool complex with a strong currented river which was fun when we visited 4th of July. Rio is a hike from everything else but so nice. Hilton definitely a nice pool. At the MGM they have Mark Miller's Coyote Cafe and it is fun to sit in the bar area with a seat to people watch. The best gourmet Southwestern Food anywher. A wonderful Carne Asada steak. The theme park at the MGM is free to just walk around in and it is fun to watch the giant bungee there. Have a great trip. We go every two months as my 3 year old loves it there. I have no idea if you like to dance but the MGM has a Studio 54 and it opens at 10pm and plays music of the 70's and 80's and is hopping. Men have to dress in a collared shirt or sport's jacket. We had such a good time just watching the help.

We are German Visitors and we love Las Vegas.
This time we made a reservation in "The Orleans"
We know, that it is not right on the strip, but we have a car.
Because I think you know a lot of the Hotels in Las Vegas what do think about "The Orleans"?
Is it nice, do they have a buffet.....
Thank you for your answer.

We just got back from Vegas. We stayed at the Rio Suites this time, and will stay there when we go next year. The rooms are very large, and the buffet is wonderful. You may be able to get an all-inclusive rate that comes with 3 buffets a day. They call it Rio Riches and its great because you get all your buffet tickets when you check in and you get to go through a separate line where the wait is usually less than 5 minutes.

You'll have a great time...there is so much to do, even if you don't like gambling. If by chance The Amazing Jonathan is playing you should definately see him. He was at the Sahara when we were there. He is hilarious!!!

My vote is for the Monte Carlo. I stay there every time I go to Las Vegas. Comfortable, spacious and elegant. Gerda: the Orleans is very nice. While I have not stayed there (and therefore have not seen the rooms), it seems very comfortable, and since it is very new, it won't be shabby or worn. I know that lots of locals love it and say that the gambling is great; good odds.

Just found out that Bellaggio, a brand new upscale hotel, is having their grand opening on October 16. From Orlando they have a 4 night, 5 day package for $499 per person which includes air fair and some amenity packages. A good deal since the rooms there go for about $ 150 a day and up. TO give you and idea of class, the shops are Gucci, Versace, Hermes, Chanel, etc. very upscale. might want to check that out.

If you're planning an October trip to LV, you might want to avoid the Bellagio until it's been open for a while. It usually takes them a while to work out all the kinks. As I recall, MGM had a terrible time when they first opened.

The Monte Carlo has been running some very attractive specials as of late. In fact, most of the properties in LV are offering bargains, as tourism is down and rooms are up! A great situation for travellers.
