The only really good restaurant on your list is Albona--the rest are not places most locals would recommend as great. Although Paragon is OK for a pre-ballpark meal or it used to be--haven't been in awhile.
Like ET I also would suggest you reconsider your hotel choice, a bargain that if awful can ruin a vacation.

I'm hoping not, SAB! I am staying at a place for only $40 per night for one night. I think it is called Encore Express. I am determined to not let it ruin my trip. It is just a night of sleep then I am off to pick up my son from camp the next day and move to Club quarters.

they call it Nob hill but it is rather borderline, imo. Maybe tenderloin? rate shows as 60/ngt right now. I must have done it through hotwire or something. It was 40 for me, shared bath in the hall. here is the link, Stu:

The Tripadvisor reviews are pretty good recently, most of the complaints seems to be about no elevator and the fact you have to check in at another location on Hyde and other than the fact there is a lot of traffic, Bush at Larkin is not the Tenderloin.

You are welcome, it peaked my interest as a place I might be able to recommend to a friend's 20-something kids who are looking for inexpensive lodging in SF this summer (other than the floor in my condo!!!!)

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Cow Hollow Motor Inn in the Marina district/Cow Hollow - stay there whenever I'm lucky enough to go there for work or pleasure! The streetside (Lombard) rooms can be a bit noisy, though, as are the ones on Steiner (I think it's Steiner, anyway - with all the great restaurants) I'm a light sleeper, so I ask for rooms in the back. There's NO view, but it's quiet!

Oh, I read some more, and someone mentioned Hotel del Sol. I stayed there once - it was fun! Loved the colors in the rooms. The location of the Cow Hollow is better, though - can't beat it for restaurants!

I realize the OP has already said the Hotel del Sol won't work, but I had to reply to the last poster. About thelocation of the Cow Hollow being better. That makes no sense - they're 3 blocks from each other, and equidistant from shopping/restaurant streets --- Hotel del Sol is very slightly closer to Union Street, and Cow Hollow Motor Inn is very slightly closer to Chestnut Street. Neither is better or worse IMHO, and in fact, they're not very different. Just last week, we parked closer to the Hotel del Sol, but walked a few blocks and ate dinner on Chestnut Street --- easy.

"easytraveller - i would beg you to reconsider your hotel choice"
Thank you for taking the trouble to check up on ABVI Golden Gate.I have read the reviews and agree that some are not good, but I also read the reviews on priceline and found them better. I also read reviews on other hotels that are much more pricey and found there are a lot of bad reviews for those as well. I haven't used priceline before, but would be willing to try. The only trouble is,there are not many hotels in the Marina area on priceline so if I take a punt on that I may just get a worse one that the ABVI. I will keep a look out for discounted rates on sites like kayak and orbitz etc and see what comes up. By the way - Hotel del Sol is booked out for the time we are there. I am still open to suggestions.

All the restaurants on my list came from recommendations on Fodors - some from travellers and some from locals. I am thinking the 4 sign-in-addresses above are locals and would be interested to find out your opinions of the following list.
We are in SFO for a week and will not be eating at expensive restaurants every night, so will need some economical restaurants as well (hence Lori's Diner). I would prefer restaurants that are not too "touristy".
Heres the list - your recommendations will be appreciated.
Hayes Street Grill, Albona, Paragon, Momo's, Tres Agaves, Scoma's, La Folie, Lori's Diner, Aziza, Tadich Grill (couldnt see a menu for this one),Pebacco, Calzones, Enrico's. Chow Restaurants,Mona Lisa, E'Tutto Qua, The Cliff House, Lulu's, Perbacco, Ristobar.
Any recommendations for a place to go for a drink and/or a snack after the baseball and Beach Blanket Babylon would also be appreciated.
