Where to stay in Taos?

I am looking for a nice Inn or B&B in Taos for one night this fall. Romantic, historic, well-appointed would be my hopes. Willing to splurge (max $300/nt). Any ideas?

Melissa, stop at the Visitors Center on the outskirts of town. I'm sure they will be able to recommend something to you.

Taos is in New Mexico, north of Santa Fe.

Melissa,

We just stayed at Casa Europa in Taos (505-758-9798). Very romantic atmosphere. We stayed in the English room. Large room with mix of antiques and southwestern decor; canope over bed; beautiful view of gardens. It was also at the lower end of the price range ($115/night if I remember correctly).
Casa Europa is an old hacienda (1700's)with 7 rooms; gourmet breakfast; and afternoon dessert with coffee/teas/wines/beer/soft drinks. It's outside of town so it's very quiet. Remember, though, Toas is small; so the drive to town is 5-7 minutes.

Orlando's is a great Mexican restaurant frequented by locals. And Villa Fontana is a lovely setting for outdoor meals. The owners of Casa Europa have menus for many restaurants in Taos. They previously owned Greenbriar in Boulder, CO.
Have fun!

Melissa,

In addition, Casa Europa had some higher priced suites with their own hot tub. Their web site I think is now back in operation.

Santa Fe is a much nicer town with the old world feel you are looking for than Taos. Taos has gotten junky and low class.
