Visiting the National Bison Range

If you have toured the National Bison Range near Polson, Montana, please give me your impressions. I am trying to decide if it is worth a drive down from West Glacier to take a look.

I definitely would not go out of my way to see it. We drove briefly through it on our way from Spokane to Glacier and enjoyed it but not to go out of our way for it.

I agree about the Bison Range. Definitely drive around Flathead Lake. I don't know when you are going to be there but in late July the cherries are ready and they sell them in road side stands up and down the lake. Some places let you pick your own--a neat experience.

We are heading to Glacier this summer and remember the wonderful cherries! Are they not ready until LATE july!?!
We will be there in mid june and were praying to stop at those road stands again!

I tend to agree about the National Bison Range, as far as going out of your way to see it. It's worth a look if you happen to be in the neighborhood. In addition to bison, the range is home to elk, mule deer, antelope, bighorn sheep and other wildlife. You are not GUARANTEED to see much more than the bison, but the possibilities are decent. If you happen to be into photography, that would be another good reason to go. I've visited several times and was fortunate enough to pick up shots that subsequently sold to magazines, so the opportunity for something special is there. (Even a blind squirrel finds a few nuts... ;-) )

We were there in late July. Don't know how long their season is though. Maybe it starts earlier.
