Where to stay in NYC during Christmas time?

We are planning a short trip to NYC somewhere between Christmas and New Year. We'll see a Broadway show and just stroll around. What is the most interesting place/neighborhood in Manhattan to stay during that time? Thank you.

Waldorf is always nice. My friend recently stayed at Essex House and loved it, overlooks Central Park; can't go wrong with that. We stayed at Omni which was between Madison and 5th, easy walk to Rockefeller and shops on 5th etc.

Sorry - I should have stressed that I need an advice on a neighborhood of Manhattan - not specific hotels.

Midtown is the place to stay during Christmas. Rockefeller Center Tree, Saks, Macy's, Lord & Taylor windows, Radio City Christmas Show, Fifth and Madison Avenue shops.

I agree: Midtown is magical during the holidays. The tree at Rockefeller Center is the epicenter of Christmas cheer. You can easily walk to the theaters and shops. (Times Square is cleaner than it used to be, but it gets old very fast. Better to stay up in the 50s rather than the 40s to get away from the theater crowds.) Have a nice visit.
