Where to stay in LA?
Looking for hotel in Los Angeles for end of June for 8 nights. Is the LAX/Inglewood area an OK location? Is the neighborhood OK? Is it too far from all the action or suitable for touring?
Anyone ever stay in the Best Western Suites near LAX?

The Best Western Suites near LAX is the same as they are everywhere else. Paul, there is no neighborhood around LAX and you don't want to stay in Inglewood either.
Do you have to stay in that area on business? If not, there are other parts of the city that are more desirable and you won't hear planes taking off, day and night. Marina del Rey is not far (about 10 minutes) from the airport and has some very nice hotels, as well as Santa Monica, or West Los Angeles. Unless, you like airport areas-- and some people do. There are many large hotels at LAX. They are all relatively similar.
Check out the Santa Monica Convention Bureau website for a listings of many hotels.

Do not stay in Inglewood. It's a less than desirable part of town and that was even before the Forum disappeared from its hosting games and concerts.
Santa Monica and Pasadena would be better choices. And downtown LA isn't a bad choice. The area actully is quite central and you can easily take advantage of public transportation to places like Hollywood, Universal Studios and Long Beach via the Dash shuttle bus and subway system.

Thanks for your replys about where to stay. I was looking for a clean place to stay that is under $100 a night and is near a freeway. That's why I was looking near LAX.
I will expand my search now that it appears the LAX area is not so nice. Is the freeway system fairly accessible from Santa Monica?

Hi Paul,
The 405 freeway and the 10 freeway are very easily accessed from Santa Monica, which is a very desirable place to stay. Beware though of heavy traffic during the rush hours (which run about 2-3 hours every morning and evening) the 405/10 interchange is the busiest in the world.

Paul, you can get a room for under $100.00 at the Days Inn of Hollywood at 5410 Hollywood Blvd....it's right near the 101...it's owned and operated by a family who keep it clean, and the rooms are decorated in a decent fashion...there's also an outdoor pool and a free continental breakfast of cereal, breads, fruit, juice, milk, coffee, and tea...the area is fine and you can even walk to Mann's Theater and that tourist area...a walk in the other direction will take you to the Los Feliz section of LA, which has some nice cafes and restaurants...you'll also be able to catch a glimpse of the Hollywood sign from this area...it's a good value.

I just got back from staying at the Four Points Sheraton in Santa Monica. It is a mid-priced hotel, probably nicer than the others mentioned here, free parking, and within walking distance of the beach/promenade, which was really nice. You might want to try www.hoteldiscounts.com and see if it's listed. Good luck!

I know that the LAX area can be pretty boring, but if you're looking for a pleasant place to stay with reasonable rates, I can recommend the LAX Doubletree in El Segundo. It's in a pretty bland office park area, but it has a heated outdoor swimming pool, it's clean and safe and the staff is pleasant. It's not so close to the airport that you get much jet noise, either. I've stayed there several times, and I've paid between $59 and $80 a night, plus tax.

LAX has some luxurious hotels, Westins, Hiltons etc, that have very low rates on weekends. We once got the LAX hilton for $58 on a Friday and Saturday through hotwire.
Holiday Inn Brentwood Bel Air is our favorite for location, staff, and price. With Entertainment card or travel club you can usually get a good rate, also check through Expedia and hoteldiscount.com
Bargain basement is the Claremont in Westwood, old, no TV's in the room, bare basics, but the price is low and Westwood is a good location for a base with lots of restaurants and nightlife, and it's safe.
Motel 6 in Hollywood or Days Inn are also low budget choices, within walking distance of the subway to Universal or downtown L.A. The subway will also get you down to the great Aquarium in Long Beach.

We're going in early June with a six-year-old and a two-year-old. We plan to attend both a Dodgers and an Angels game and go to Disneyland, California Adventure and possibly the La Brea Tar Pits.
Any suggestions about a central hotel to the majority of these locations? We'll be renting a car, so public transportation is not necessary.
Also, if you experts have any other suggestions on what to do with little munchkins, please share them! Thank you so much!

Susanna, the safe, clean city of Glendale might be a good choice for you since it is freeway-close to Dodger Stadium (10 minute drive) and Disneyland (45 minute drive).
The Los Angeles Zoo at Griffith Park is very nice and the kids will enjoy Travel Town (trains) nearby. Glendale is also full of family friendly restaurants, many within walking distance of the Best Western GoldKey Motel. There is also a Hilton and a Days Inn and a Homestead Family Suites.
The "5" Freeway South goes to Disneyland and the "2" freeway ends at the entrance to Dodger Stadium.
