Where to park in Philadelphia for 1 day visit?

You can park in the underground lot in the historic area which will put you very close to Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. I haven't been there in a couple of years; the neighborhood was improving, but I would plan on picking up my car by 9 p.m. for security reasons. Don't know anything about the trolley tours, sorry.

We were in Philadelphia this weekend, the Trolley tour that we saw the most of and seemed to be quite popular was called Philly Phlash.
We parked near the river in the Old City at a parking lot that was $20-a day, on Market St and Front St.
We walked to Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell from there, quite a few sights were within walking distance.

The Philly Phash is actually not the trolley tour. It is operated by the public transportation system (SEPTA). While it does go to the different sites in Philly, it is not a narrated tour. The Philadelphia Trolley Works Tour (link below) is the one I would recommend. The tours start at Independence National Historic Park at 5th and Market. There are plenty of parking garages in the Historic area aroung 5th and Market. Downtown (Center City Philadelphia) is very safe, no need to worry about the car. The most economical parking can be found on the Ben Franklin Parkway from about 20th to 23rd Streets where they have 12 hour parking meters on the street. It's a relatively short walk from there to the Market Frankford line Subway at 15th and Market (City Hall) which you can take to 5th Street (Historic Area.)
