Where to go Late May? Opinions Please

Hubby and I are looking for a vacation for just the two of us late May early June in the US. We have been living overseas for many years and are looking for a nice vacation in the US when we return.

We are in our early thirties, not foodies (although we enjoy a nice meal), not partiers and just want someplace nice that won't be scalding hot or outrageously expensive that time of year. We want things to do other than just relax too. Hubby has been to Hawaii and the Bahamas, I've been to Cancun and NY. Any other recommendations for your favorite places? We plan to visit Vegas in the winter when its not so hot.

Any thoughts appreciated!

Think about flying to Boston, enjoying the city for a few days and then heading out for some beautiful nature, either the mountains or the sea.

Otherwise, it's rarely hot in Seattle, and there's lots of interesting nature close by.

hi - sedona and the grand canyon are always spectacular. Include Bryce and Zion and you've got a wonderful trip. However, it would be important to make reservations asap.

If you specify whether you want a city or an outdoorsy, active vacation, it would help a lot.

San Francisco and maybe the wine country or south to Carmel/Monterey.
The weather is pretty much the same year round. (pleasant!)

Another vote for San Francisco and environs.

How about Santa Fe? Too hot maybe?

Vancouver B.C. would be another great choice. What a wonderful city!

Have fun deciding.

Bill - late May/early June is really nice in Santa Fe, not hot yet...almost as nice as late Sept./early October.

Of course, I am partial, but you might consider the P. Northwest...the Olympic Penn. and stop at various small hotels, go up to Hurricaine Ridge, Port Angeles,...etc....you spend as much or as little as you want.

If you've never been to Arizona and Utah, I suggest you there and neighboring states that catch your fancy, if you have time.

I highly recommend either Seattle or San Francisco. There is plenty to do in both places! If you go to San Francisco, definitely make it a point to get out to Yosemite. In fact, you could even go there for a week! It is beautiful and there is a lot to do besides relax!
Another idea would be to drive from San Diego to San Francisco. My husband and I did this over the summer and it was amazing! Here is a copy of my trip report:

If you go to San Francisco, my advice is to drive Highway 1 between San Francisco and Malibu if you must choose between that drive and Yosemite.

I've had to drive up and down the Calfornia coast more times than I can remember and I think Highway 1 is only worth the effort is some places, especially the closer to you get to LA. I think parts of 101 and 5 are actually prettier. Also, if you want to stay in nice places, California can be pretty expensive. And lots of times there is fog.

Maybe when you go to Vegas you can go to California as part of that trip.
