Where to go in MAY?
Planning a trip for 2 weeks in late May and can't decide where to go. Trying to go somewhere where the weather is at its best.
We like scenery, big cities, popular tourist areas, etc. We are a couple (no kids), late 30's. Any suggestions or ideas?

For late May, just about anywhere other than the mountains and the extreme north should be okay for travel, weather-wise. So the real question is where you can get scenery near big cities. Hmmmm.
If you demand OPTIMAL weather at the site, I'd recommend Southern California or Miami (if nature and wildlife appeal to you). If ACCEPTABLE weather is, well, acceptable, then add Seattle and San Francisco.

Come to Minnesota. The trees are all leafing out then and the snow will all be gone, unless it snows while you're here and then that's just a quick cover and it's gone. The lakes will be pretty and blue and the rivers all running fairly high from the spring runoff. School will still be in session so the tourist crows will be down except for the fishermen on the weekends.

May is a fabulous time for southern Utah and the 4 Corners region. Nice and warm, not to hot yet, or too crowded. Wildflowers are blooming, scenery, hiking, photography can't be beat. Who needs a big city? If you really do, start in Vegas.

Fly to Montreal for a few days rent a car and drive to Quebec City then on up to La Malbaie and stay at La Pinsonniere a night or two on the St. Lawrence River. You could stay at Fairmont LE MANOIR RICHELIEU both resorts just an hour or so north of QC. QC is one of my favorite places.
The food is outstandning and the view at Richelieu and LP is awesome.

While it's possible to have nice sunny weather in Southern California in May, it's more likely you'll experience the unrelenting heavy overcast called "May gray" (which is even more likely in the following month of "June gloom"). Unless your interest is taking portraits and flower pictures (for which "God's softbox" of an overcast sky provides ideal light), late spring is not an optimal time for visiting Southern California.
