i live in Charleston and these would be my choices.
SNOB ~outstanding BBQ tuna
Cru sitting at chef's table.
Dinner- Our favorite is Trattoria Lucca(love food but loud),voted by Travel and Leisure 2012 as one of best Italian restaurants in US. chef is opening new restaurant at IOP in June~can't wait!!
Macintosh
Bar- Pearlz for oysters-happy hour Mon-Fri is FUN!!!!
I suggested SNOB and Cru for lunch although we eat at both restaurants for dinner regularly. ]'
This gives you the chance to enjoy more restaurants in Charleston for dinner. Seewee, Wreck, Hominy grill, Poogan's Porch average.
Best she crab soup-Anson's.
I have never been that impressed with Husk, FIG,or Hanks.
Just when you think you have decided on restaurants. ENJOY!!!!

We are planning a trip that might go thru Charleston in july which ones talked about above are good for families with smaller kids who are fine with basics but the adults want something past the basics. Also average price of the hominy grill and SNOB if you could please?

Our kids are 3 6 and 9. We are going from texas to williamsburg VA. We are stopping in various places both to and from and trying to create an iteniary I am pushing for outer banks or pawleys island as a stop and likely greenville SC to visit one of my wife's good friends who moved there recently. Looking for good food non chain resturants in the south. First major trip driving for family and we are reading up on various things to do amd places to eat. Any help would be appriciated. My nine year old loves burgers so we will be looking at some places to stop while driving but want a better idea of great places to eat when we get to our various destinations.

You might want to start your own thread with this info and for information.
Pawley's/Murrell's Inlet is awash in great places to eat. and you and your family would enjoy Brookgreen Gardens and Huntington Beach State Park there also.

Some of our favorite places in Mt. Pleasant are: Papa Zu Zu's, Graze and Stacks Coastal Kitchen. Five Loaves is good but very loud and gets too crowded for me.
We discovered The Lost Dog on Folly Beach and had a terrific lunch....a small café with framed photos of dogs all over the walls!
Poe's Tavern on Sullivan's Island is a must do. Known for their hamburgers. It's always busy any time of day or night.
Magnolia's in Charleston is always on our list as well.
Ted's Butcher Shop in Charleston is an interesting place..a combination deli and served meals.

Acme Lowcountry Kitchen on IOP (formerly Acme Cantina) has a wide variety of seafood dishes, three kinds of shrimp and grits, nightly specials, as well as simple burgers/wings, etc. Laid back but delicious!
